Who says having fun requires money? Here are some kids activities in Melbourne that are completely free!

We all know about the beaches but what about the other attractions that Melbourne has but we never knew they were free? Museums are a great way for kids to be exposed to art and the inventions and history of the world. Kids activities in Melbourne are endless and they change with every season.

The Royal Botanic Gardens

The Royal Botanic Gardens are perfect for a family outing. Every week there are different events the kids can participate in and what’s better than a walk in nature? There is a lot of space for a picnic and playtime! The kids will be able to see different types of plants and the most beautiful flowers Melbourne has to offer. There is also one in Cranbourne that is just as colourful and welcoming for kids of all ages. The Fitzroy gardens are also a good alternative.

 Museums

Melbourne has so many educational museums where kids can spend their day learning new things and enjoying the entertaining activities the museums offer. The Royal Australian Air Force Museum is a good example as it gives kids the opportunity to discover different aircrafts and see them fly every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Another great choice is the Old Treasury Building that was built in the 19th century and showcases the history of Melbourne and Victoria. Make sure to check the opening hours because every museum has different ones.

Waterparks

There are many waterparks where the kids can have fun and get covered in water especially on the hot days of summer. One of the most fun kids activities in Melbourne and it’s free! The best waterparks to visit are the Ron Barassi Snr Park in Docklands where the kids will be able to play with both water and sand and the Saltwater Coast Crocodile Park which is perfect for family outings. Both are designed to keep the kids happy and entertain them for ages! The Riverwalk waterpark is also an excellent place for the kids to play but make sure you check the opening hours. There are many more cool waterparks in Melbourne, spread around different suburbs so make sure you find the one closest to you!

Storytime

A lot of libraries in Melbourne, as well as some Dymocks, offer free storytime on certain days. It’s a great way for kids to socialise and meet new friends and the stories change every time so kids will not get bored. This one might not require a lot of energy but it is suitable for rainy days when kids still want something fun to do. It is also a chance for kids to choose bedtime books that you can borrow and read to them at night. Keep in mind, the storytime sessions at the libraries take place in the morning.

Playgrounds

Melbourne parks have some amazing playgrounds to offer for kids of all ages. There are many fun ones around Melbourne but the most popular playgrounds are the Frontier Park Adventure Playground and the Royal Park Nature Playground. Looking for these enormous playgrounds with different buildings and slides that you can’t find in regular parks makes playgrounds the go-to choice out of all the kids activities in Melbourne. The kids will have a lot of space to run around and enjoy the gigantic playgrounds with their friends! A great solution for kids who get bored easily from plain playgrounds!

There are countless choices when it comes to free kids activities in Melbourne. The only thing you need is to be ready to have some fun!
