After much public outcry about the need for a hipster Lego Dad figure, Lego has delivered.

As part of a new line of figurines in the ever-popular toy range, Lego has produced a stay-at-home, hipster Dad to be available in its range.

The Danish toy giant unveiled a series of new plastic characters which seemingly seems to depict a wider range of individuals.  The hipster Lego dad figure for instance, has a father dressed in plaid, sporting a ‘trendy’ a beard, pushing a pram beside his wife who is dressed in business attire.

Lego says the new figurines are an attempt to represent ‘the world we live in today’.  The modern-family range is being released as part of its new ‘Lego City’ line, which also includes a child in a wheelchair accompanied by an assistance dog.

In a recent interview with the Fortune website, Lego Systems president Soren Torp Laursen said:

“We need to stay in tune with the world around us.  We aren’t responding to demand from anyone. We are trying to portray the world around us and listen to our consumer base.”

The public outcry about the need for different figurines, including those portraying different disabilities, has seen over  20,000 people sign a petition to see the new figurines added to the Lego range.

  • I love it! LEGO are on the mark, portraying the world around us rather than producing what people want. These would make a great souvenir to remember how things are right now. I’d love to collect these actually!
