There is a simple solution to keep your family’s shoes smelling fresh and not stinky, you can make your own shoe powder; it’s easy, cheap and effective.

DIY shoe powder

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 a cup of cornflour
  • 1/4 cup of baking powder
  • 1/4 cup of baking soda
  • 5 drops of essential oil (optional)

Method:

  1. Add all the ingredients to a zip lock bag or container and mix to combine.
  2. Sprinkle a pinch in each shoes every morning or every week as required to keep your shoes smelling super fresh.

If your shoes are already smelly, you may like to add extra and leave overnight and then shake off the excess in the morning.

  • They say you shouldn’t wear the same pair of shoes every day. Shoes absorb moisture from your feet and they don’t dry out if you wear them more than one day in a row. One old method is Tea Tree Oil spray to get rid of the odour. It is also antibacterial so will also stop moisture causing mould in your shoes.

    • I think your idea is better than the powder. Tea tree is a great product and the powder could get messy. And I agree that shoes need time to dry out.
