Just when you thought you’d seen every possible baby-related product on the planet comes Girlie Glue – an adhesive designed to stick bows and hair accessories to a baby’s head.

Some babies are born with a full head of thick hair, others are bald for the first few months of their lives. And if you’re a mum who’s been itching to put accessories in your bub’s hair, it can be frustrating! So one mum decided to come up with a solution – and it has opinions divided!

Katie Hydrick came up with the idea of Girlie Glue after she ‘got tired of slippery uncomfortable headbands and bows’. She says her babies didn’t have enough hair for clips but still wanted to use cute accessories. So she went to her kitchen and whipped up a batch of what would become Girlie Glue, so she could stick bows to her babies’ heads.

Girlie Glue is made using natural ingredients including Agave nectar, and claims to be safe for skin and hair. Just pop a dab on a hair accessory, put it in place, and when you want to take it off, it washes away with water.

While Girlie Glue has been around for some time (and caused a stir when it was first launched), it was recently thrust back into the spotlight after a mum shared a video of how she uses it on her daughters, and it went viral.

“After trying headband bows on my babies I realised quickly that they either pull them off or I have to constantly adjust them. That’s when I started using Girlie Glue!” Amy Lynette shared.

The negative comments came flooding in, with other parents furious that the product exists.

“How ridiculous. Your babies don’t need sh*t glued to their head to signal what genitals they have,” one person commented.

Another said: “Is this a f**king joke? We are sticking things to our babies heads now to affirm their gender? As if those bow headbands aren’t stupid enough, we’ve graduated to gluing things? This is some dumb bs. I know it’s not harmful ingredients but thats not the point.”

“Imagine not being able to wait for your kid to have hair long enough to style so you just start gluing shit to them,” commented another person.

Amy addressed the comments, saying: “I’m not sure why this is making people so upset. It is corn syrup, agave nectar, and sugar. So similar to what our moms used in the 80s and 90s. If you didn’t grow up with that, you might think it’s odd but let’s not bash a great product that a lot of people love.”

The product is also marketed at anyone wanting to attach accessories to their children’s hair for crazy hair day … and even their pets!

  • I wonder who you’re trying to please or impress when sticking these things on your baby’s head ?

  • I cannot see why this is necessary at all. It turns a cute little baby into a not so cute one in my opinon.

  • maybe not really necessary for babies, but. super great for dress up days with older kids though or crazy hair day, dance comps etc.

  • I probably wouldn’t have used it on my babies BUT I would definitely use it now for crazy hair day etc..

  • Admittedly I used double sided tape to keep my son’s hearing aids on his head when he was very little. But that’s not a cosmetic thing.

  • No i would not use this on my babies head. Created because she didn’t like the children kept pulling off there headband bows? Perhaps maybe because they didn’t like having something on there head. I kind of like the idea that i can put a headband on my daughter, and if she doesn’t like it she can just pull it off. I would never want to force her to wear an accessory for purely aesthetic purposes or an ‘instagram photo’ etc. How much stick are we talking? Can the babies pull the bows off themselves or will it hurt them, and pull on there little fragile hairs if water has not been used to get it off? Seems very unnecessary.

  • Really not necessary babies are always beautiful there is no need to accessorise them.

  • Who would really use this!?

    Reply

  • Not something I would do but the ingredients of the glue are at least natural and okay.

  • A hard no from me, not a product I would ever use for many reasons.

  • For babies? I think it looks a little odd sticking it with little hair. But i can see how fantastic this would be for things like crazy hair day

    Reply

  • This is definitely something I would not
Consider using. Who glues things to their kids heads. That is just outrageous

    Reply

  • I’m good to never use this on my daughter!

    Reply

  • I could see this for dress up or crazy hair days, but not “just because”. That’s really unnecessary.

    Reply

  • People are upset because it signals that babies are accessories not humans, and that girls’ value is in being an ornament.

  • Noooo, unhinged for sure!! Would I use this as an adult, or when I was a teen, definitely. But sticking things on a babies head?!? Unnecessary.

    Reply

  • I think the girly glue is pretty unhinged, no baby needs a hair bow enough to need to glue it into their hair. Just use an bow with a band. I would never purchase this product.
