Hello!

Kia is recalling more than 30,000 of its most popular SUVs amid concerns a software issue may lead to a vehicle fire.

The issue impacts 31,074 vehicles across the Kia Sorento and Sportage lines. The recall notice outlines that due a software issue, the Heater Core Element may operate at a higher than intended temperature causing damage to the connector. If this occurs it may result in a vehicle fire.

The recall affects all variants of UM Sorento models from 2014 to 2020 and QL Sportage models from 2015 – 2021.

Owners are being told to contact their local Kia dealership to schedule an appointment to have the HVAC control unit software updated and the Heater Core Element and connector inspected and replaced if damaged.

  • It’s scary to think that something that should be reasonably safe is potentially putting lives at risk

  • Its sad so many new cars are being recalled these days

  • It’s very scary to think you could be driving along with young family in the car when a fire starts. I’m afraid I’d be so nervous I wouldn’t drive the car at all.

  • At least I haven’t heard any horror stories about this yet.

  • So pleased that my KIA doesn’t fall within this recall range. Such a lovely car to drive!

  • Recalls seem to happen regularly now. I suppose with electronics there is so much that can go wrong.

  • Happy not to own a Kia but could happen to any brand really. Hopefully there’s no more issues.

  • This is concerning. Hopefully all these cars will be recalled.

  • Another recall after years of selling and people are using it already. Their qa or testers should be able to identify it before releasing out in public. They need to step up when they see something might be wrong even if its such a hunch as they are risking peoples lives.

  • My hubby has a hire car for work and trying to find on the website whether or not his car/VIN is listed is a nightmare. He has to sort through all of the listings on there. I would like to think the hire company would do this and contact him but will be proactive instead and have them look into it.
