Doctors confirm newborn as the heaviest baby ever born in India and are calling him a ‘miracle’.

Indian mother, Firduous Khatun, 36, has welcomed her ninth child a very healthy 14.77lbs boy! Despite the baby’s big size, he was delivered naturally and in just 15 minutes!

Dr Anjana Gupta, who delivered the baby, said: ‘He is a miracle baby. In my 21 years of experience, I had never seen a new-born as big as him. We could not believe how, despite his big size, he smoothly came out. Though his shoulders got stuck for few seconds, within three minutes he was in my hands. He was so big that he was not fitting in my hands. He is a beautiful baby. Though he had respiratory issues initially, both he and his mother are now doing fine,’ medics said.

Mrs Khatun is not diabetic, which is usually what causes obesity in new-born infants, Dr Gupta said. She added: ‘We do not know why the baby is so big but he is healthy and all his parameters are fine.’

  • Goodness, he is a big bundle of joy. I only wish all Mothers had such smooth deliveries. They say that the more babies you have the shorter the labour. The Doctor probably got a huge shock from the size of the baby.

  • Bet she is glad the baby is out. My daughter in law had a 10LB 4 OZ and it tore her. I like the baby to be big but not that big. My biggest was 9LB 13OZ and I never wanted to repeat that again, the closest i came to that was my twins but they are separate, their combines weight was 12LB &OZ .

  • Ouch! I’m crossing my legs and wincing just thinking about it! That poor poor woman. And the baby doesn’t look right in the pic either, he looks dead in fact. His body is yellow and his face is all discoloured…..not normal at all
