Chocolate Popcorn is a super quick snack that is great for lunchboxes … or of course family movie night!  Add a handful of Maltesers or chopped up Mars Bars for even more chocolatey fun.

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 1/4 Cup Popcorn
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa
  • 2 Tablespoons Icing Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

Method

  1. Add the Olive Oil to a deep pot and put on the heat until extremely hot.
  2. Add Popcorn and then pop the lid on. Maksure you jiggle the pan around constantly to ensure popcorn doesn’t burn and all kernals pop.
  3. Once all the kernels are popped remove from heat. Using a sifter or strainer add the cocoa and icing sugar and sprinkle over popcorn ensuring you coat it all evenly. You can add more cocoa and icing sugar if necessary.

  • I like sweet and salty popcorn, but not sure I’d be a fan of chocolate popcorn.

  • I wonder if they would allow this at school. They seem to be stopping a lot of what we would call healthy snacks these days.

  • I make this regularly but instead of icing sugar I use a healthier and less sweetener like 1 tablespoon of coconut palm syrup / yacon syrup / raw honey / raw coconut palm sugar. Instead of olive oil I use cocnut oil.

    • I also do regularly peanut butter popcorn, same idea

  • What a fantastic idea! the volumising of the popcorn but you still get your sneaky little treat in too. I’d use some cacoa powder and stevia on the popcorn too for extra flavour..or cinnamon :)
