Ingredients (serves 6)

  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 60g unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 1-2 tbs milk, to beat
  • 30g butter
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 4 tbs golden syrup
  • 1 small lemon, juiced

Method

  1. Sift flour into a bowl, then rub in butter until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Beat egg with a little milk and pour into flour mixture. Combine to form a dough, then divide into small balls.
  2. To make the syrup, combine the ingredients together with 1 cup of water in a pan and bring to the boil over medium heat. Carefully add dough balls to syrup and boil for 20 minutes. Serve with syrup and cream

  • I’ll definitely be trying these. Will be perfect for this colder weather.

  • Childhood memories of eating golden syrup dumplings. So delicious on a cold winter’s night … or just whenever it takes my fancy.

  • not sure yet how they turned out because they are still cooking but thought i would bring to your attention that this recipe needs to include the weight of ingredience also in grams to reduce the stress of working it all out under pressure while cooking. i dont have a mesuring cup so if those details were added it would be much appreciated. i will be back shortly to let u no if they have worked out regardless. im pretty sure it was pretty close to what it was supose to be in the end but all super stressfull and i still have to try and make custard from custard powder. omg. hopefully that provides gram weight or i dont think i can do it.

  • These remind me of what my mum used to make, but I think she used suet instead of unsalted butter.
