Serve with fresh crusty bread

Ingredients (serves 6)

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 Rashers trimmed bacon, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 stick celery, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 5 cups beef stock
  • 1 can lightly crushed whole tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • 150 grams green beans, trimmed and cut into 4 cm lengths
  • 1/4 cup risoni
  • 400 gram can white beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 tablespoons chopped flat leaf parsley


  1. Heat a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, bacon, carrot, celery and garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until browned
  2. Add stock, tomatoes and puree and simmer for 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender
  3. Add green beans and pasta and cook for 8 minutes or until pasta is cooked
  4. Stir through white beans and parsley and cook for 1 minute.


Tastes even better if you let it sit for a day.
