Sometimes I just feel like a simple meal for dinner or brekky, and this is my go to feel good food. It took me a while to perfect, as I cannot stand an undercooked or overcooked egg. The 6.5 minutes is the key, as is the pinch of salt which helps the water to boil faster.

Ingredients (serves 1 | makes 1 serve)

  • 2 eggs, free range and size large or bigger :)
  • 2 pinches Murray Valley Pink Salt, or iodised table salt
  • 1 Slice toast with yummy fresh butter

  1. Boil enough water to cover eggs, adding 1 pinch of salt. Once water is boiled put in the two eggs. Time the cooking for 6.5 minutes. I give a stir to the water every couple of minutes to minimise the risk of the shells cracking
  2. Cook toast whilst eggs are boiling, I like a high fibre white bread.
  3. Serve and enjoy!

Look around your local area and see if you can buy free range, farm fresh eggs...

  • My kids love runny hard boiled eggs though i can never seem to get them right, thanks for this recipe ill give it a go.

  • Can you tell me do you take off the heat or continue to boil them as I love runny boiled eggs and have not been very successful with them. Thank You for posting and your reply in advance

  • Great easy breakfast idea. Thanks for sharing.

  • You need soldiers for a runny egg.

  • I have never cooked my eggs for that long and they are always perfectly cooked, but I guess there would be many factors! :-)

  • It’s the simple things, in life that are best..and this is one of them! Nothing beats a perfect and gooey egg!

  • My girls loves eggs, they could eat the whole carton worth

  • My eggs would be hard boiled in that time. Remove the eggs from the fridge an hour or so before cooking. It also depends how hard the water is boiling – whether you have the controls set on high, medium or low and how deep the water is.

  • I have an abundance of eggs at the moment – time to go back to the basics.

  • A recipe that l will try, thanks for the timing!

  • three minutes – nah, for me the white would be clear, and the yolk barely warm I will stick with my egg time LOL

  • I love a nice boiled egg with toast soldiers and a sprinkle of salt and pepper too

  • seams a long time for runny eggs,I cook mine for 3minutes and they can be a bit hard.

  • I love a yummy runny egg!

  • oh I loved a good runny egg when I was a kid, my kids love runny poached eggs but I may have to give them one of these to try (they haven’t been huge fans in the past as I have over cooked them!)

Thank you for sharing your way of doing this
