Perfect with a cuppa and when you feel like a sweet treat.


Ingredients (makes 16 squares)

  • 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 1/2 cup self raising flour
  • 1/3 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/3 cup caster sugar
  • 100 grams butter ,melted
  • 2 cups mixed unsalted nuts
  • 1/2 cup cacao nibs ( optional)
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds ( optional)
  • 1 can ( 395 g) sweetened condensed milk

Method

  1. Mix flours , coconut and sugar. Add butter , mix well
  2. Place in to paper lined baking tray and press down firmly
  3. Bake in 180 degree oven for 10 minutes
  4. Remove from oven and pour nuts ( and cacao nibs/ seeds if using ) over the base
  5. Pour the condensed milk over the nuts , ensuring all parts of the nuts are covered
  6. Place bake in oven and bake for another 20-25 minutes until golden
  7. Allow to cool before cutting into squares

Notes

This keeps well for a week in an airtight container in the fridge

  • Lovely ! We love nut slices. We prefer not to use sugar and condensed milk, but that’s easy to substitute.

  • You can buy Gluten free puff pastry too which would be a lovely sweet baked treat. So simple but sooo tasty. It would be nice swapping apple for strawberries too.
