Our lovely new dishwasher arrived on Tuesday. Our dishwasher has been broken for at least 2 years, so we were very excited to get to review the Haier dishwasher! On delivery, we had a moment of panic, when we looked at the new machine we were not sure it was going to fit into the dishwasher space in the kitchen, despite having taken measurements. However, my husband got it into place, as it has screw adjustable legs. Connection of hoses and tubings and power was straight forward. Looks good in position, and now that it is actually in place, it fills the dishwasher space better than our previous broken machine.

We have been using the machine for a couple of weeks now, and how has it been washing?
Well I am impressed! Its results have been great! Things are coming out cleaner than they ever did in our previous machine. And last night I even jammed so much in there it was almost overloaded, and everything come out clean! Sure, the plastics are still a little wet (I set the machine at night and unload in the morning), but that is plastics for you!

This machine keeps surprising me! My OLD dishwasher would surprise me with things that it hadn't cleaned properly, whether it was due to my placement, not rinsing it or plain reasons unknown. This dishwasher surprises me with the things it DOES clean! I HAVE managed to get a few things come out unclean, and always due to me not rinsing something that it is all dried out, or placing things too close - and I have done these things on purpose, just to test it!
My only slight negative on the machine, is the lights on the control panel. They are all red, and they aren't insulated from each other. So if you look at the control panel from an angle, it looks like more lights are on than are really. You need to look front on to see properly. Then, once you have the machine started, the lights on one side of the panel blink on and off constantly. These are not big issues really, afterall, you set the machine and walk away, you don't sit around and watch it!

i have never considered having a dishwasher. I always considered them to be for lazy people. I also thought they were a water waster. But this is brilliant. Energy and water efficient. Easy for everyone in the family to use. Not overly huge in size, so space saving. I rave to all my friends about this dish washer, I love it

The control panel is simple and basic. Love the time remaining indicator - my previous dishwasher didn't have that! The instruction manual is also very simple and no fuss. On the upper rim of the door, there is a legend for the symbols on the front control panel. The programs can only be set when the door is closed. So remember the symbols! No huge problem. The door doesn't have a latch system to open it - you need thumb pressure on the upper machine surround to open the door. Again, not a huge problem (in fact, the latch system was one of the things that failed on my previous machine). Really loving have a working dishwasher again! The old one had sat there in its space for 2 years - total waste of space. And I am finding it so much easier to keep up with the clutter in the kitchen!

It has been 4 weeks since I became acquainted with Master Haier, and he has become an essential part of the family. He has allowed me to enjoy having a birthday surprise, made the kitchen dazzle with his smooth looks, made my kitchenware feel so much cleaner and he has helped me through the man flu. This dishwasher has a good capacity, can be adjusted in heights to suit your needs, has multiple wash cycles depending on what/who/how many, is pretty goos on water/energy needs and does the job he is designed too. I am happy, kids are happy and visitors seemed to enjoy him too. Welcome to the family Dishwasher Haier, looks like you are staying.

Miss 5: I love trying to put all the dirty things in the new dishwasher. It has lots of slots and spaces for all the kitchen things. Mum says things have places in the machine but I can't remember them all the time, but get most of the plates and cups in. I love to check the blue rinse stuff and watch the lights on the dishwasher while it works. MIss 3: my favourite thing about the new dishwasher is that it has a mirror on the front (handle) so I can see the funny faces I make, and can see if it looks like I have brushed my hair.

This dishwasher has made it so easy with great space between each dish so they clean. It dries everything perfect and the fast wash s great for parties when your trying to do lots of quick cleans.washers very well even very siloed pots and pans, super quiet, concealed buttons great if you have young kids.Looks fantastic. I found this good looking dishwasher to be quite inexpensive compared to others. However it's energy ratings and water usage was up there with the more expensive, well known products

The haier 12 piece dishwasher is a great addition to our house. It's efficient, easy to use, has excellent features such as extra dry and half load. Even the kids can use it.
My Haier 12 place setting dishwasher is two months old, and has suddenly stopped working. It won't turn on at all. I loaded it up, added the powder, shut the door and tried to turn it on and nothing. I have called Haier's customer support and they have given me the numbers of local repairers, but from past experience I may now be without a dishwasher for an unspecified length of time. Definitely something to consider if you are looking to buy one of these. After two months of using it, and now this, I probably wouldn't buy or recommend one.

This week I gave the Haier its toughest test yet - a big pot scrub. I soaked, rinsed and even loosened as much as I could with a dish brush before putting these pots (one Stainless Steel I've only had for a few months, and one ceramic titanium coated non-stick I've had for years that is starting to wear out). The Haier's performance on Intensive cycle was not great, and both pots still needed some pretty good scouring by hand. I'm not sure how another dishwasher would fare under these conditions, so it's hard to judge the Haier's performance here. However, I can say that it doesn't do well with heavily soiled pots and pans.
I am still very satisfied with its performance on our everyday cutlery and crockery, however.

As a person big on saving water I was happy to see this dishwasher had 4 stars. I normally not use the intensive setting very often, but having the flu run through the house I figured less cleaning for me and more hot water to rinse away any germs that might try to hang around. I have also taken the opportunity to run the kids plastic toys through the dishwasher for the same reason. Master Haier is much better at having his arms in very hot water than I am!

The Haier is still cleaning dishes well, all the better for a filter clean. I tried for the first time this week to clean the "toddler tracks" off the front. Grubby handprints came off fairly easily with spray and wipe and a microfibre cloth.
I have been washing a few items that were covered in soot from a house fire we had a while ago. I've been very impressed with the Haier's performance on these pieces as cleaning them by hand has been VERY labour intensive.
My mother came to stay during the week and she tends to sink wash everything. I suggested that instead she could load up the dishwasher, and use that extra time to play with the kids. I came home from work and not only had she loaded it, but had even worked out how to turn it on! What an indication that the controls are easy to understand. She was amazed at how much room there was even for the bigger plates. Extra family time, thanks Haier.

I have fallen victim to the dreaded flu. After sitting up in the wee hours holding sick children my immune system has been breached. What goes first when Mummas are sick? The cleaning. Thanks to my special buddy Master Dishwasher, I can stuff all my dirty kitchen mess inside the roomy shiny machine, that has rack a each for everything and nobody needs to see how I have dropped the ball! Two days sitting in there and Haier still got them clean!

The direction in the Haier 12 place dishwasher's manual to rinse dishes before placing them in the dishwasher is not just a suggestion, it is very important. I came home after being away, and my husband had been using the dishwasher without rinsing which had compromised on the cleaning performance. I pulled the filter out to clean it, and it was full of disgusting food bits. I now realise how easily food gets stuck in the filter, and we will be very diligent about not only pre-rinsing dishes in the sink before loading but also cleaning the filter several times a week.
Hello weekend. Time to cook up a storm and get lunches, emergency meals etc happening. I am using this, that and the other. Luckily this machine is ready to take on board a lot of washing. Space for my pots n pans and he is still able to whizz his little arms around to clean my culinary utensils. Master Haier, does seems to struggle a tad on the drying though….

So, an unplanned trip south for work means I need to ship out with a very dirty house and little time to do anything about it. Packing, washing clothes, finding warm enough clothes to wear! Argh! I have kinda cleaned up the kitchen area and already run a load in the Haier, but I still have more items we continued to use as I cleaned. Luckily it has a rinse option. I can run the rinse, turn off the machine before I leave and know they are 'gross bits' free and waiting for my return and more dishes.

Still doing a fair job of getting the dishes clean. I did notice a little bit of food left on the last load, but my husband stacked and set it so it's possible he didn't rinse the items correctly or use enough powder etc. For an affordable option the Haier is a good choice.
We have been using the Haier 12 piece dishwasher for a couple weeks now and are impressed. We love the delayed start as it means we can fill it and set the timer to come on when we are asleep. The half load option is a bonus for those days when you only have a small wash to do. Overall we are impressed.

Dishes are still sparkly clean, if a bit wet. We tried the Finish Quantum sample tablets that came with the dishwasher, and got excellent results, but have also been getting great results with powder. We prefer not to have tablets in the house with a toddler, so it's great that it works well with powder.

‘Trust Your Intuition’: How To Advocate For Your Child In Hospital
Mother’s instinct is a funny thing. At home, we trust it without question. But put us in a hospital setting with an unwell child, surrounded by doctors, nurses and monitors, and suddenly we start doubting ourselves.
What if I’m overreacting? What if I’ve got it wrong?
So we stay quiet, even when we know something just isn’t right with our child. I’ve been there myself – when my usually ‘tough’ son was doubled over with stomach pain. I was told in the emergency department that it probably wasn’t his appendix. But I knew he wouldn’t have begged me to take him to hospital unless it was serious. Because I know him better than anyone. Turns out, it was appendicitis.
It’s a really common place for parents to land. You’re grateful for the care your child is getting, but at the same time, you feel this huge responsibility to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
Here’s the thing though: that instinct you’re feeling? It matters more than you might think.
Why your gut feeling matters more than you realise
According to Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital, Leticia Jackson, parents bring something to the hospital that no test or machine ever could.
“Parents often say they ‘just know’ when something isn’t quite right with their child, and in a hospital, that gut feeling is incredibly valuable,” she explains.
Leticia Jackson, Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital
While medical teams rely on observations, tests and equipment, parents know the little details. The way your child usually smiles. How they react when they’re tired. What’s normal for them.
So when something feels “off”, even if everything looks okay on paper, it can actually be an early warning sign.
“When parents trust those instincts and speak up, this creates a powerful partnership that can sometimes catch a problem before it becomes an emergency,” Leticia says.
Worried about speaking up? You’re not alone
A lot of parents hesitate about advocating for their child.
You don’t want to come across as difficult. You don’t want to question the people caring for your child. And sometimes, you just don’t feel confident enough to push the issue.
Leticia gets it.
“It is completely understandable for parents to feel hesitant,” she says. “No one wants to be seen as difficult or to second-guess the hardworking people caring for their child.”
But here’s a helpful way to look at it: you’re not challenging the medical team, you’re helping them.
Parents are the constant. Staff change shifts, care for multiple patients, and rely on snapshots of information. You’re there the whole time, noticing the subtle changes.
“Our medical team doesn’t view a concerned parent as overreactive, but as a partner,” Leticia explains. “Your voice matters.”
Remember, we know our children better than anyone.
What to do if you’re worried: the Raise It process
If you’re in a NSW public hospital or health service and you’re worried about you or your child’s condition getting worse, there is a clear process you can follow called Raise It.
Raise It is designed to help patients, carers and family members get help fast if they’re worried about a change in their loved one’s condition.
Here’s how it works:
Talk: Start by speaking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.
Ask: Still worried? Ask to speak to the nurse or midwife in charge and request a Clinical Review.
Call: If you’re still concerned, you can escalate further using the Raise It process to get urgent attention from a senior health worker.
You don’t need medical knowledge. You don’t need to be certain. If you feel something isn’t right, or your child is getting worse, Raise It. You just need to speak up.
What should you actually look out for?
Sometimes it’s not one big, obvious sign. It can be small, subtle changes that just don’t sit right.
Things like:
Changes in breathing (fast, laboured or noisy)
Skin looking pale, mottled, or developing unusual rashes
Your child being unusually drowsy, floppy, or hard to wake
Confusion or behaviour that’s out of character
Pain that isn’t improving with treatment
Or simply that feeling that your child is getting worse
And sometimes, it’s just that gut feeling you can’t explain.
That’s enough.
“You are helping us, not bothering us”
If there’s one message Leticia wants parents to take away, it’s that you aren’t bothering the medical team, you’re helping them.
“In my years as a Nurse Unit Manager, I can say with absolute certainty that many critical changes in a child’s condition have been identified first by a parent. While our clinical staff are highly skilled at performing regular observations and interpreting data, parents are the only constant presence who truly know their child’s baseline behaviour, personality, and what is normal for them.
“I have seen numerous instances where a parent’s insistence that their child is “just not themselves” – despite vital signs appearing relatively stable – has prompted a deeper clinical review that uncovered everything from early signs of sepsis to a life-threatening respiratory crisis.”
The Raise It process exists because healthcare teams know how important parents are in keeping children safe.
“Speaking up doesn’t mean you don’t trust the team,” she says. “It means you’re partnering with us to make sure nothing gets missed.”
And if you’re still worried about being judged?
“Whether your concern turns out to be something or nothing, your instinct to raise it is always valid.”
As a parent of a child with cystic fibrosis, I’ve learned to trust my gut when something doesn’t feel right. We’ve had a few experiences where we’ve needed to go through different channels to raise concerns or frustrations with the hospital system to make sure our daughter got the care she needed. It’s great to see programs like this encouraging families to speak up, because parents often know when something isn’t quite right.

It’s great to see programs like this encouraging families to speak up, because parents often know when something isn’t quite right.
This is so true from my experience over the years.
No matter how wonderful the medical team is, if you have any doubts speak up as a mother knows her child better than anyone.
Yes and amen to this article ! I agree with always follow your gut, you know your child like no one else does. In fact you are your child’s expert and should never stop advocating for them or speaking up. Sometimes professionals are very good in waving concerns away, all it takes is a human who listens
Even as a healthcare professional, when I took my soon to the ED when I was concerned, I felt awkward about speaking up, worried I was making a big deal out of nothing (even though i would never tjink this about a patient’s family if the roles were reversed). The message in this article is so important. Always stick to your guns. Always speak up and advocate for your kids – they can’t do it for themselves.
And honestly, some medical staff are idiots. I vividly remember the night two doctors huddled over my son’s lung x-rays. I hadn’t been allowed to accompany him to have them taken as I was pregnant. They finally told me solemnly that they were preparing to do emergency surgery as there was something in his lungs – “we don’t know what it is, but it’s definitely man made”. I took one look at the x-rays and asked if they’d taken off the battery packs for his cochlear implants, which were pinned to the back of his shirt, before the x-ray. And of course they hadn’t, and of course that’s what appeared to be in his lungs. Honestly!
I have learned many times to always listen to your gut and speak up when you don’t think something is right. This article was a great read, our kids are our world and if we don’t feel they are getting the right help, and we feel it, we need to speak up.
You should never second guess yourself when it comes to yours or your childs health- or anyones for that matter. Go with your thoughts. It is natural to want to protect a loved one especially when it comes to health situations, and the feeling you get when you think you didnt do enough to advocate or fight for them…it is not a kind or nice way to feel. Many people have ended up being heartbroken and picking up pieces for years because of feeling they didnt do enough.
A very good and informative article. I have read so many stories about mums just knowing when things are not right and demanding second and third opinions until they got the right answer. Sometimes mums just know. It is our job as care takers of our families. Listen to your gut!
Years ago, I spoke up for my 14-year-old daughter, but my concerns weren’t fully listened to. I’ve always wished I had pushed harder. She was sent home without much testing, and two days later, she passed away.
So, if you ever have concerns—no matter how minor—please speak up and keep advocating. Trust your instincts; they are there for a reason.
This is so important for parents to know how to raise it further if they don’t think their child is receiving the medical support they need! I know this article refers to the NSW system but other systems have similar procedures just with different names. I know in QLD it’s called Ryan’s Rule.
It’s so important to follow your gut instincts and express your concerns indeed. I have never hesitated to advocate for my children in various situations and I don’t care what other people think about it. Not all doctors and medical staff appreciate it when you question them, I’ve experienced that it may result in angry indignant responses.
How true this is! While nurses and doctors are the medical professionals doing their job on the daily, we know our children better than anyone and what is ‘normal’ for them. I would always speak up if I had noticed any changes in my child’s health and encourage other parents to do so too. No question is silly!
This really is such an important issue and a good topic to discuss with people, I am often surprised that people are worried about being judged. This is not something I care about; the priority is for the care and health of everyone is my family. Parents know their children and need to work with health professionals for the best outcomes for their children.
This is such an important issue to raise, and no one should ever feel ashamed, nervous or that they are being OTT for advocating for their kids, themselves or loves ones in hospital. In QLD we have Ryan’s Rule. A three step process where your concern will be escalated if they believe the patients condition isn’t improving or is worsening.
I have never been afraid to advocate for my children and partner and extended family and also friends. It is so important to listen and to trust intuition. When people have not listened, I have persevered and kept on with insisting on care and making sure they truly listened and took action.

Pot scrub not great.
I am still very satisfied with its performance on our everyday cutlery and crockery, however.

After a few weeks now.....

Still going well.
I have been washing a few items that were covered in soot from a house fire we had a while ago. I've been very impressed with the Haier's performance on these pieces as cleaning them by hand has been VERY labour intensive.

Part Three: Washing Results
Well I am impressed! Its results have been great! Things are coming out cleaner than they ever did in our previous machine. And last night I even jammed so much in there it was almost overloaded, and everything come out clean! Sure, the plastics are still a little wet (I set the machine at night and unload in the morning), but that is plastics for you!
