  • Kentucky Style Chicken Thigh Fillets are my favourite product from the summer range!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. That just about sums up my love for these chicken thigh fillets. My kids love them too! They have the right amount of spice and amazing flavour. They are nice and juicy, but have a lovely crunchy crust. They only take a few minutes each side on a frying pan to cook. Yes please, I’ll have some more! 🙂

  • Delicious meal

The Kentucky style thigh fillets were quick and easy to cook. I choose to fry them on the stove top as its too hot to use the oven. They turn out perfect and tasted great. I paired it with the woolworths tropical salad. Which tasted amazing. I have never had that pair of dressing before. Chilli and mango went very well i was just dissapointed the salad didn’t have much cucumber in it. I will defiently buy these again as it was a hit in my house.

I would definitely buy them again. Delicious crispy coating and the chicken was moist and tender with just enough spice. My husband loved them and he doesn’t like spicy food. I shallow fried them and they were very quick and easy to prepare. Paired with the tropical summer salad made a great meal.

  • Woolworths Chicken Thigh Fillets Kentucky Style

Having a fussy eater for a son I can only praise this delicious product and recommend it for even the fussiest of eaters. My son has a very limited appetite when I comes to certain foods, especially chicken. The Woolworths Kentucky Style Chicken Thigh Fillets passed his first test, which is the visual appeal then followed on strongly by excelling in his next criteria which is taste. He said he prefers it too any other chicken he has had, including KFC. So now if I’m stuck for ideas I know the Woolworths Kentucky Style Chicken Thigh Fillets are sure to please and won’t be fed as left overs to the dog, as there is never any left.

  • Decent quality chicken

Easy and quick to cook. I put these Woolies chicken thigh fillets into my air fryer and my little one loved it cut up into pieces. Serve with some chips, carrots and sweetcorn and it was one of his favourite meals. These chicken thighs are tasty and my son and I love the coating, give them a nice crunch. I haven’t seen them in a while, but I hope they come back in stock soon.

  • A nice quick option for dinner

We like to try different products so thought I would give these a go. They were a quick option and I put them in the oven and baked them. They came out nice and crispy. We served with a salad and some small potatoes on the side. They were tasty and all family members enjoyed them. The coating was tasty and the chicken was ok,

  • Tasty spicy chicken

We eat a lot of chicken and I was looking for something a little different and decided to give this a go. I really like the extra spice on this chicken, the kids – not so much, it was too spicy for them. I do however prefer chicken breast over thigh breast, but this one is actually not bad. Only a subtle difference in the flavour. I’d recommend.

  • Really Yummy Chicken Fillets - Our Family's Favourite!

This is definitely our family’s favourite. So delicious and easy to prepare for a quick weeknight dinner! I came across this product when it was reduced at a local Woolies store. I pan fried the fillets and served it with lettuce & mayo as a chicken burger. It was an instant winner, as hubby loved it (he can be picky, hence I am happy that he loved it) and my LO loved it too. I loved it too, and I think anyone who likes chicken thigh fillets will enjoy it too!

I tried these for dinner last night and my family loved them! They were so quick to cook and I loved that I could prepare the vegetables while the chicken was doing its think in the oven. I was wrapped not to have to coat the chook myself and end up with a meal that you can barely tell I skipped a few steps. I’m also surprised at the great crunch that I got from the crumb. I have cooked this both in the oven and fryer both with great results. The most popular with my mob was mixed warm into the tropical salad ( also part of the summer range). Fingers crossed they add them to their range all year round.

  • Delicious as a Chicken Burger Too

This time around we grilled the chicken fillets and put them on burger buns with lettuce, tomato, cheese, cucumber, carrot and master 8 had his with tomato sauce.
They once again delivered on their promise and admittedly we grow our own tomatoes and cucumbers, the meal only cost $20 for 4. Well worth it and the kids are wanting to know when we are having them again!
Sadly I forgot about taking a photo until they were almost finished 🙁

  • Healthy alternative to KFC

First thing my kids said is “this is way better than KFC”…I loved it was just take out of the packet, put on a tray and cook, no mess or fuss. Chicken was full of flavour and really moist, super versatile, could be cooked ahead and served cold in school lunches. I did feel it was a bit on the pricey side, I can buy a whole chicken for the same price which gives us a hot meal and cold meat for sandwiches the next day.

  • Tasty, tender but not crunchy

Was really happy they were thighs. Much more tender and were quite tasty. A bit too peppery for my kids though. I would have liked it to be more crunchy. I baked mine in the oven, so did not get as crunchy as I’d hoped. I use a lot of pankow crumbs which get really crunchy. These crumbs were a bit mushy.

How to choose the best lunch box for school

When you’re searching for a kids’ lunch box, take the time to work out what will best suit their needs. If you make the right choice and invest in a quality one, it will last many years.

  • Box, bento or bag? If your child doesn’t like different foods touching, a bento lunch box is a great choice. Also, think about whether they prefer cut-up or whole fruit; a bento is better suited to cut food, while bags and boxes suit whole fruit. Bags are fantastic if you like to pack separate containers, like smaller bento or snack containers.
  • Freshness is a must – An insulated bag or box will keep everything cool and fresh until snack and lunchtime. But you can also get boxes that come with cold and ice packs. Remember, kids’ lunches often sit at room temperature for up to 5 or 6 hours before they’re eaten, so insulation and coolness are important. Check out how to keep school lunches safe in the heat.
  • Easy-to-clean design – Check if the box is dishwasher-safe, or for lunch bags, if they’re machine-washable.
  • Leak-proof – The last thing you want is a soggy mess at lunchtime, so if buying a hard lunch box, look for designs that are leak-proof with proper seals.
  • Child-friendly – Depending on your child’s motor skills and independence, you may need to start with a product that’s simple to open and close.
  • The right size – We tend to pack way too much in our kids’ lunches, so think about how much realistically you’ll need to pack for your child when choosing the size of their lunch box. You may also need to consider the size of their school bags.

Pros:

  • Keeps food hot for up to 6 hours
  • Fabulous for ‘nude food’ lunches
  • Awesome carry handle for younger kids

Where to buy it: Biome, Woolworths

What to put in kids’ lunch boxes

Health professionals agree that kids need a good balance of lean protein, grains, fruit and vegetables throughout the school day. Skip the processed food and try to reach for whole foods that pack a punch in the nutrient department. Here are some great ideas:

  • Grilled chicken or turkey wraps with fresh salad
  • Crackers and vegetable sticks with healthy dips like hummus
  • Whole-grain pasta with cherry tomatoes and your choice of cheese
  • Zucchini slice cut into rectangles for easy stacking in an insulated box
  • Almond-meal slice with raspberries or blueberries – or both!
  • Vegetarian sausage rolls – these freeze well and make a great meat-free lunch when cold.

  • I do not know if anyone else has picked up on this or not, but every bag mentioned in the table above is a ‘designer’ brand. There are plenty of more affordable options that aren’t over $40. I have never spent that much on a lunchbox – even from Smiggle. The cheaper brands last just as well too.

  • Getting ready for the return to school has started to kick in so this was a timely read. We have the yum box and i love it, it is so easy for my daughter to open and close on her own. I find the lunch cooler bags also a great idea however some days depending on what else needs to go to school, they can be quite bulky to include in the school bag. I need to do some more research this year as i like the idea of being able to watch it in the washing machine, that is a clever idea.

  • Along with all of the other back to school products; there is also a good range of lunch boxes available for people to buy. It has been fun to see the wide range of bottles and lunch boxes that are available for the new year for school and for work.

  • Lunch boxes have come such a long way since my eldest was a kid, he’s now 26! There’s really a solution to everything from food heating, cooling, dividers, pockets etc etc. Lunch boxes are a real fashion accessory and so on-trend these days. I personally love the Bento lunch boxes. They save on plastic and separate different foods.

  • I am such a huge fan of Bento lunch boxes and Bento. Food should be so many wonderful things; including delicious, fun, colourful and nutritious too. Lunch is a favourite meal because the body is ready for some more calories and a boost of energy. Food looks so good in Bento lunch boxes.

  • There are so many great lunch box option out there indeed ! I’ve always liked the Bento style lunch boxes for my kids. It reduces the use of plastic lunch bags and packaged food which aren’t very good for the environment and it encourages to present a good variety of foods (which is not only better nutrition wise but lao to prevent our kids from getting bored with same foods all the time.

  • There are some really fabulous options here. So many variations of colour, shape and size. I love the bento style lunch boxes, so handy to keep food separate and eliminate the use of plastic packaging. The machine washable bags are a great idea too. They can get grubby so fast, this would be so much easier to maintain

  • This has gotten much easier since my kids hit high school – they have strong opinions about their lunch boxes, so I don’t have to think about it so much anymore! However, I am strongly in favor of bento style boxes regardless of their age. They’re easy to clean, easy to pack, and invite appropriate sized portions.

  • Great article! Our kids are so lucky, when it comes to lunchboxes, they really are spoilt for choice. There are so many to pick from. Regarding sandwiches, my eldest son, used to hate sandwiches for school lunches. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered that he’d throw out his sandwiches in the playground bins. My son’s an adult now and he still hates sandwiches. He only likes “hot” lunches. So glad he lives on his own now and can make his own “hot” lunches just the way he likes them.

  • Wow, lunch boxes have really come such a long way from when I was taking a lunch box to school. Feel old, like “back in my day”, but we were lucky to have options like are available now. While I like some of these designs, I feel like they aren’t super practical.

  • These lunchboxes are beautiful but are they really worth the expensive price tag? I have been through so many lunch boxes and bags over the years and found the best it to use an insulated lunchbox bag with ice brick and use small containers to keep individual items fresh and assessable.

  • I love the bbox lunch boxes. They are so reliable and tough when kids throw their bags around. Easy to wash and store. I have used the we can be tiny snackies at home too. The boys love choosing a certain animal shape. They wash well, are durable and great quality.

  • My kids are old enough now to pack their own lunches and I am so happy to see the great choices they are making. They take left over meals, cook food in the morning to take and now I am confident they aren’t throwing away sandwiches! I do have the chilly bags for them, I find they fit better into bags

  • Love our bento b.boxes. So easy to pack. I do however worry that they’re made of plastic, not metal….

  • My daughter uses a bento box now for work and sometimes an insulated bag in summer, but when she was at school it was a rectangular lunch box with no compartments. It was very easy to wash each day, just the box and lid, and it could still be filled with rolls/sandwiches and snacks.

  • Lunchboxes are so important these days. Back in my day it was a brown paper bag or the exact same lunch box that everyone else had and there were three compartments. Today its such a fashion statement and as much as the lunchbox itself is judged so are the contents.

  • I absolutely love the bb box quite sturdy. It took many lunch box to find one that would last. Before this lunch box we had a stuck on you. I found the stuck on you lunch box didn’t last when the hinge’s snapped they wouldn’t get back to me (only had for a short time and my youngest couldn’t open it so it wasn’t dropped. Just opened it after the 8th time and snapped). The bb box has lasted the last year and a half and still going strong
