Yes it is just 8 weeks until Christmas is with us again oh boy it seems to come around so quick these days. As much as I love Christmas I am finding it just so expensive I have decided to cut down on presents this year only buying for close family only my 2 daughters my husband and my parents and that is it I do feel bad that I cannot afford to buy extra gifts for people but it is not really about the presents its about that special time of year when you get to spend it with loved ones

  • Christmas is about getting together and not lots of presents.

  • Yeah.. Family presence is present enough is what I say. We only buy for the youngest generation now!

  • I find the best way to do my Christmas shopping is to start at the mid year sales and any other sales that occur after that. Cudo, Scoopon etc are great towards the end of the year for cheap experiences (we gave the in laws a paddle steamer cruise with 3 course lunch for $79 last year!). I then store it all in a plastic box with a list inside the lid of who I’ve bought a gift for and what. End of year sales are great for next years Christmas crackers, decorations etc.

  • Presents are nice but food and family is what we all remember can already smell the roast and Christmas ham :)

  • We cut down on family gifts as we got older and started doing a (not) secret Santa. Everyone just buys one present for one other adult as long as it’s not immediate family (because we buy for them anyway).

  • Over the years we’ve cut down on presents – I don’t think anyone minds.

  • It comes around way too fast, secert Santa is a great idea, as well as something as simple as something homemade, Christmas is about spending time with those you love and always has a nice feeling spending that special time of year with those you love

  • We do a secret Santa for the adults and I do lots of baking such as fruit cakes, gingerbread and shortbread biscuits to give to friends.

  • That is so true. our family getting bigger every year and is costing. i cant stand past minute xmas shop its way over crowded and so many rude ppl out

  • I would love to do a secret Santa among the adults but my mum won’t hear it. I absolutely despise Christmas shopping and not because of the money spent but the pointlessness of it. I’d rather no gifts but great food.

  • We do secret Santa for all the adults in my family and we just buy gifts for the kids. Keeps the cost down and you are not getting heaps of things you don’t need.
