Hello!

During the recent fires, this poem was sent to me.

I do not know who wrote it, but it truly hit home.

The number of times we have been about to go out, or do something and the pager goes and he is gone. Also the few occasions when I thought I had lost him…

I would love to know if there are other MoM members who either volunteer themselves, or are partners of volunteers.

The table’s set

The meal’s prepared

Our guests will soon arrive.

My husband once more disappears

To keep someone alive

While waiting home

and all alone

Our plans have gone awry.

My first response

as often is

to sit right down and cry.

But soon again I realise

the importance of my life,

When I took on the duties

of being a fireman’s wife.

While there may be drawbacks

I’ll take them in my stride

knowing “My Daddy saved a life today”

our children can say with pride

The gusting winds and raging flames

may be his final fate

But with God’s help I can remain

my fireman’s faithful mate.

  • Wow, that hits home! My partner is a volunteer firie. Thankfully we don’t have a lot of call outs, but they’re worrying all the same. Particularly the Jan 2013 bushfires. Power and phone lines were down, there was no communication, it was very scarey

  • This is simply wonderful. Each and every single firey is an angel and society would fall without such angels assisting us all.
