Well after years of working menial jobs for not so great cash, I decided its time to do a course and get a job ill love. Well isnt that easier said then done. First deciding what course I decided on a diploma of nursing. Second the entrance exam which is a literacy and numeracy test. After failing miserably at the nu eracy my first attempt I decided on a tutor. Second attempt and I passed the numeracy not only did I pass but I got 35 out of 40. Well im in but who knew a course had dso many expenses other than the actual course fee. First there is a uniform yes a uniform then a nursing kit and books. As a single mum this will financially destroy me, but im still trying. Finally the first day of the course rolls around and this isnt going to be easy not only am I paying the books off so I wont have all at once which im now realising ix going to make things harder but choosing a course that starts at 3pm and finishes at 9pm wasn’t a bright idea. Oh well somehow ill get through this. Wish me luck that I can fit in study around a screaming 15mth old and a 4year old who has just discovered the art of making sandwiches lol

  • I am a single mum of four kids all under 6. I am a registered nurse as well as a qualified dental nurse and radiographer. But I am in the same boat. I don’t work because all these jobs are shift work or outside school hours. I end up spending more money on child care.
Centerlink can give you a think called jet which will help you with the book and uniform costs. Hope you follow through with the nursing it truly is a great profession just very under paid and under valued! Good luck with your studies.
