Hello!

Once a year, our council would hold a hard waste collection. I’ve just found out this is to be no more. While I understand that for around a week the footpaths look unsightly, there was also lots of good things that came out of this ‘trash and treasure’. For us, it was always good entertainment as we watched what people would cart away, once we put out a set of 4 chairs and they only took 3, that had us shaking our heads for awhile. We usually came away with something new from timber cut offs, terracota pots and home wares. I’ll miss you hard waste week!

  • it would be nice to have somewhere where you could go and get free stuff like furniture etc. or donate your stuff.

  • My old council had hard waste whenever you felt like it for free, you simply rang, booked a time and on the day before put the stuff on the curb, the neighbourhood loved waiting for people to do this, like you some people would cart stuff off (my mum put out her old toilet and an older man in the neighbourhood carted it off). My new council has hard waste collection twice a year, but they change the dates constantly so no one ever knows exactly when it is. Frustrating.
