My beautiful little boy started school last year and he was so excited. I did my part making great school lunches for my son. I wanted him to eat healthy and made nice little muffins packed with fruit. Mini pizzas for lunch and even made homemade dip with carrot and celery sticks. I was feeling quite proud of myself when the lunch box was coming home empty every day. Last friday i was talking to my son and said you are a very good boy eating all your lunch at school. He said mummy i have a secret.. Oh a secret i said tell mummy. He said i throw my lunch in the bin everyday and daddy gives me lunch money. I was shocked i said why does he do that. My son said. Lets face it mum your a bad cook and we didnt want to hurt your feelings. so daddy said i can have lunch money as long as i throw my lunch in the bin at school because we dont want to hurt mummys feelings.

  • Oh, that’s a bit sweet, on dads behalf and your sons. A hit of a waste of your time and food, but sweet that they didn’t want to hurt your feelings

  • Oh dear, I’d be imagining that you don’t pack lunches for your husband for work then? I don’t know whether I’d be laughing or upset if this happened to me.

  • the conspiracy between father and son is so funny also your boy’s innate honesty is endearing. Ask him does he have any suggestions for his lunches to help you out.

  • Ohhhh harsh!! I pride myself on being a pretty good cook but last year my kids were not impressed with my boring lunches. I’ve really had to ramp it up since then and even the dinner menu has a had a change up. The variety and newness must be really working because the lunch gets eaten and there’s no fighting about dinner. Maybe you could ask for input like ‘what would you like mummy to put/make in your lunch box instead?’ Good luck!

  • My Daughter was kinda the same I would make her salads and put everything in little containers and in to her lunch box I made her the lunches I always wanted as a kid than the day came when she said to me Mum can I have normal lunches like the other kids and when I asked what she meant she wanted sandwiches like the other kids….all those great things I thought I was doing but not in her eyes it made her not one of the norms lol
