Hi mums,
Every week I was getting sick and tired of throwing away spoilt food. It’s not just the money wasted but you think of the people that struggle to have a meal and it breaks your heart. So I came up with what I think is a fantastic idea that works for me and I hope works for you.

I have one if those 12 month calendars that you pick up from your local pharmacy every year.i always use it for doctors appointments, birthdays, etc. now I have started using it to record expired dates of food. I don’t record everything, just my problem items such as 1L tubs of yoghurt, eggs etc. my calender is stuck on my fridge, which is where it used to live before I was doing this.

  • that is a great idea. you could also just get a marker and write the date that you open it or the date that you think it should be eaten by. my friend really likes to label things so for her kids she has a colour label system. eg blue for a week, red for a day.

  • Oh this is a brilliant idea so many times I have gone to use something and it is really passed its use by date – thank you for sharing.

  • Its a good idea.I try to put fresh yogurt and items like that behind the ones already in the fridge to make sure we use the ones that are about to expire first. But so often they get moved around and I’ll find a full yogurt at the back of the fridge expired before its even been opened. Such a waste.
