my 6 yo daughter has been taking things with out asking ranging from food to jewelry and is starting to become a daily battle i feel like i cant take her to the shops or to friends places i hate feeling like i cant trust her and starting to question her every move :( i have tried using a reward system but didn’t work have even referred to taking her favorite items and putting them up and telling her if she could be good just for the day then she can have one back but if she continues to be naughty then they stay there. i thought it would work those toys plus more are still there and it’s been over a month i don’t know what more to do please help any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated i just want it to go back to before this started we were all happy :(

  • Its funny you say that because my daughter used to ASK before taking at that age . I will tell you what happened. One day I sprung her snooping my dressing table and taking some items out . She was actually investigating what these items were and analysing them . I thought it was cute and said to her I don’t mind you borrowing/playing with them as long as you ask and then put it back into the same place when you finish and don’t lose it. She was very happy with this condition and never lost anything . ( Well maybe one or 2 …). Try giving her the pep talk and laying out conditions and see if she will listen . Fingers crossed :)

  • The police can work wonders in talking to children, my cousin used to do the same thing, finally my aunt and uncle were at their wits end and had a chat to their local police who had a chat to my cousin – he certainly responded well.

  • I would make her return the items and let her know how wrong it is and let her know what happens to people who steal and even maybe threaten to call the big boys in to have a talk to her. Good luck and your doing a great job.

  • Remember through this you ate a good parent.

Next I would make her return things to people shops and make her tell them she stole the whatever it is.

If that doesn’t work I would talk to my local police and strange to take her there and let them talk to her.

Good luck you are doing a good job ;)
