Hello!

So my 2yr old has never really done anything silly that most children at her age would normally have done, until about 2 weeks ago when she was eating her dinner and suddenly starts complaining that her nose hurts.

I looked at the outside of her nose, nothing wrong there. I asked her where it hurts, she pointed to her nostril. So I got the torch, put my hand over her eyes and shone the torch up her nose, and saw something green. I said what did you put in your nose? She pointed to peas that were on her dinner plate.

Obviously, I’d never encountered a problem like this before, so I wasn’t 100% sure on what to do. So I thought back to my first aid training I’d had a few years ago, and remembered that the nose and mouth are connected. So, I tried telling her to blow her nose, and that failed several times. So i went out on a whim and thought maybe if I cover the opposite nostril to where the pea was, and blow gently into her mouth, it MIGHT come out.

So I attempted to blow into her mouth really gently, and no luck. So I tried I a bit harder blow but still gently, and it came out!

Thank goodness for first aid training, because without that, I think I would’ve had to take her to the emergency room.

I really hope she doesn’t attempt anything like this again!
