Hi Everyone,
Just a gentle reminder that this weekend is the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. I was watching channel 7’s sunrise the other day and they summed up the SALVO’S perfectly, they said that when there is a disaster no matter where or when the Salvo’s are there to lend a hand. Yes indeed these wonderful souls are always available to help with care and a sympathetic hear. So if you missed them today please keep tomorrow in your thoughts.
Here is a little of what they do. 30th & 31st May: Salvation Army Red Shield Doorknock Appeal

The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army’s primary annual fundraising drive and this year marks 50 years of the doorknock in Australia. The Red Shield Appeal Doorknock takes place on the weekend of 30th-31st May 2015, and it offers Australians from all walks of life a chance to not only get behind the Salvos but to be part of transforming the lives of people right around the country.

The Salvation Army helps one million Australians in need each year (that’s one person every 31 seconds) and the Salvos are asking people to join the army of hope and volunteer this appeal.

The need for funds has never been greater, and volunteers are urgently needed to lend a hand with the Doorknock on the weekend of the 30th and 31st May.

To find out more or to volunteer, simply call 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) or register online.

Some sobering facts:

• The Salvos say for many individuals and families, hard times may be just one pay cheque away.

• The national fundraising goal for this year’s Appeal is $9.5 million.

• Figures show – in a typical week – the Salvos provide 100,000 meals for hungry people, 2,000 beds for homeless people, up to 8,000 food vouchers are distributed and they provide refuge each week to around 500 victims of abuse.

You can make a difference in someone’s life by donating to the Red Shield Appeal. To donate by calling 13 SALVOS (13 72 58), by going online, or in person at any Westpac branch.

Or to register, donate or get more information regarding the Red Shield Appeal, please visit the Salvation Army website.

  • Thanks for the reminder – I will get some cash ready now so I don’t have to search for my purse when they come like I usually do! They do very good work, and as someone who as door knocked for the Heart Foundation, I know how appreciated it is.
