Hello!

I am now a middle age mum who has 4 grown up children and 2 young boys. I have struggled with my weight since being a teenager. I have tried many diets, all the different shakes which cost a fortune and healthy eating. I know my main problem is i can seem to face having anything for breakfast and that is one of the most important meals of the day to kick start your metabolism. I am just starting to do some swimming after a hip replacement so hopefully that will help but really need some suggestions to help me out please,

  • It’s amount moderation. Do you eat a lot of package, sugary, food? If so cut them out and go for fruit and veg and lean meats.

  • Try always drink plenty of water before you start eating your meals.

  • Try seeing this as a change in lifestyle rather than temporary diet. You will stay on it longer.

  • My auntie, who recently turned 70, lost over 60kgs on calorieking.com.au I think the key is to build up to things. If you are not used to having breakfast start with something really small like a piece of toast (or a half slice) or with the weather warming up a fruit smoothie (berries and low fat milk). Light exercise, plenty of water and watch the calories.

  • Swimming is by far the best exercise for toning up as it works all the muscles, Swimming has been a major part of my life. Breakfast is important & like you I struggled for years. I ended up forcing myself to eat breakfast & it may have been tough for the first week but I haven’t looked back. By eating breakfast I find I eat less for lunch & less for dinner. Drink lots of water & water only. Walking for half n hour a day is beneficial & I mean walking not strolling. I have recently lost 17 kilos by doing just this & I cut out lots of carbs & ate more veggies. Good luck but swim swim swim :)
