To be honest I never liked the idea of spending the day “toilet timing” and hasselling the kids so both of my boys were “late” in getting toilet trained. We were living in Goulburn NSW at the time my eldest was at the toilet training age as 2 1/2 days of Pre School was on the horizen and he needed to be able to go without training pants. He eventually went to Pre School with training pants on but there was never an accident.Goulburn is very cold most of the year but we had a week of really hot weather, great this is my chance.Luckily he only had to be shown twice and he seem to catch on .Amazing ! and so easy I was glad I wanted until he was this little bit older. So a week later of to the shops we go in his big boy undies and we go to the chemist next thing I know he is on a brand new potty doing a poo in the middle of the chemist.I was so embarressed but the chemist didn’t make me buy the potty and they had a sense of humour. The training pants went back on but he eventually was potty trained as all children are eventually. The second son no matter what we did he couldn’t be trained so eventually I took him to a doctor thinking maybe it’s my methods or something. He had a medical bowel condition and when that was sorted out he was fine.So don’t worry if you fing potty training hard as it could also be a medical condition so don’t stress .Good luck

  • That must’ve been so embarrassing at the time, oh dear! Funny story to tell him when he’s older though. Embarrass him on his 18th birthday maybe? Hehe!

  • Well at least he went to the right place lol … I believe in leaving it later to train as they understand more.

  • You sound like a great Mum and you have waited for your kids to be ready. Good on you for seeing a Dr with your 2nd son, things could have become very difficult for all of you. They really should call it Toilet Learning as most kids aren’t accident free straight away. My middle son is nearly 4 and we have put pull ups back on him twice before now, but he seems to be going OK this time.

  • They all train at different ages, some are ready early and know pretty much how to do it and others are later and can still refuse. Their is no set rule that it has to be done by a certain age. Do it when they and you are ready it saves a lot of stress and yes sometimes their are medical reasons that hinder the training.
