Hello!

The things we do for our kids! Yesterday I had the pleasure (pain) of trying to take my daughter to the teddy bear workshop that they were holding in the Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre for school holidays. I got there 10 minutes after the start time (9.40 am), and proceeded to wait in line for 2 hours! The catch was that only the first 220 bears sold each day would be at the special price of $7.00 which included the bear and a birth certificate.
Not only was I in the line for 2 hours, I was also behind a lady who had a little boy who was obviously having a hard time waiting, because right from the start of them lining up he continued to throw himself of the ground crying loudly, and nothing his mother seemed to say to him would settle him down. Luckily for me my 1 year old fell asleep in the stroller, and my 3 year old patiently waited with me in the line, standing by me for the majority of it, only wandering off to the side every so often. I was so proud of her for being so well behaved for so long!
My advice to any mummies who are planning to go to that particular school holiday event- go later. Even if you have to pay $12 for your bear instead of $7- it’s worth not having to stand in that line for 2 hours because talking from experience, it’s torture! Then, after waiting all that time, the whole experience is over in less than 10 minutes. Besides which, I think if you are planning on buying one of the package deals, the price doesn’t change. I purchased a package which included an outfit for the bear, a scent and a noise for $23. If I had of just bought the bear for $7 and then an outfit for $15 separately it would have worked out about the same for me anyway- AND maybe I would have had time to take my kids to the park on my day off as well.

  • Goodness! You’d think that they would organise to have more tables or more help to get through the line.

  • There are many structured activities like this in shopping centres these days. Often they are not worth waiting for – queue or not. (and the bear sounds like a promotional sale technique! thanks for the tip). With craft activities children can often do the same stuff at home if you just let them loose with the paints, or recycling etc.

  • If only I had of known! But I kept feeling like I was almost there and by the time that I realised that the line went around another bend and continued it was like ‘well I’ve already wasted this much time if I go know dd will be very disappointed.’ So I kinda had to continue on with it. But never again! On the plus side she loves her bear and has been taking it with her everywhere.

  • We just don’t do things with long queues.

  • I agree it’s not worth it when you have to wait for two hours!

  • Losing 2 hours in a queue is not worth the minor saving and disruption.

  • A very sensible advice. 2 hours in line is too much not only for a child, but for an adult too.
