We all want to make more eco-conscious parenting choices, but are you a victim of the big green nappy con?

Making sustainable choices as a parent can be tricky. On the one hand, you want products that work and will be consistently reliable in every situation. On the other, you want to reduce the environmental impact that often goes hand in hand with raising a little one. While you may have made the switch to seemingly eco-friendly nappies and think you are doing your part, you could in fact be a victim of the big green nappy con.

Many nappies that claim to be eco-friendly are, in reality, often constructed using the very plastics you are probably trying to avoid. Not to mention they are often not as biodegradable as they claim to be and still contain a number of harmful chemicals. So how can you spot an eco-imposter? Check out our list of things to look for when purchasing plant-based nappies.

Hidden Impacts

At this point, you may be feeling so frustrated by the misleading marketing of some eco-friendly nappy brands that you are ready to jump ship.

It’s important to know what’s in your nappy. When looking at eco nappies, contact the company directly to ask them what’s in their product, if they don’t answer with full transparency then you know they’re hiding things.

Ecoriginals Eco-Friendly Nappies give you all the benefits of cotton for absorbency and skin protection, but in combination with other naturally sourced materials, reducing the amount required and ensuring sustainability. The 100% pure cotton back sheet provides natural, breathable comfort for your baby. Their ultra-soft leg cuffs fit comfortably around little legs to prevent any unwanted spillage.

Plant Based

When choosing an eco-friendly nappy, plant based is at the forefront of any decision, as traditional disposable nappies can take hundreds of years to break down. Often, the back sheet is made from a plant/plastic mix or all plastic, so despite some of the nappy being made from plants, once it has been wrapped up, you might as well be placing the nappy into a plastic ziplock bag as natural biodegrading is restricted from taking place. Packaging is also an issue, with a number of eco-friendly brands missing the opportunity to provide compostable solutions.

When you choose Ecoriginals Eco-Friendly Nappies, you will know exactly what is in every layer, with no risk of hidden plastics. Ecoriginals nappies are world-leading at 90% biodegradability in optimum conditions thanks to premium plant-based materials that are also gentle on little bums! Best of all, the paper packaging can be used to dispose of the nappies too without hindering the process.

Harmful Chemicals

The same chemicals that you want to avoid to keep your little one safe are usually the same chemicals that can have a devastating impact on the planet. Plastics, fragrances, dyes, and other toxins not only have impacts on your baby’s health but also on wildlife and ecosystems – whatever goes down your drain or in your bin has to end up somewhere!

Eco-friendly nappies don’t always do their bit when it comes to reducing the number of harmful chemicals that end up in landfill, with many still containing components that are irritating to your baby’s skin and toxic to the environment.

Ecoriginals Eco-Friendly Nappies are committed to transparency, proudly free from harmful chemicals including phthalates, synthetic fragrances and perfumes, polyethylene glycols and phenoxyethanol, and triclosan. Nothing to worry about here!

So if you think you might have been the victim of the big green nappy con, make the switch to Ecoriginals Eco-Friendly Nappies today and have total peace of mind that you are choosing the expertise and proven results of a world-leading brand.

  • I feel that no matter what you do there is going to be some sort of impact on the earth. If you opt to go for reuseables then its the dyes used in the materials used, the power used to was them and the laundry powder and then the clothes dryer on rainy days.

  • I do wish companies would be more open and transparent in their sales. It doesn’t do them any good in the long term either.

  • Great info. I think brands and businesses need to be completely transparent. If not, and I found out untruths, I will drop them quickly.

  • Definitely not in the wrong. If you left out one or two kids and invited the rest of the class then maybe but no parent or child should have to invite people they don\\\’t want there.

  • My middle daughter gets ATTACKED by mozzies even when nobody else does and she reacts badly to them coming out in huge itchy welts.. She dreads going outside in the evening because of this so this repellent would bring back the fun to her summer nights…

  • I only used cloth nappies for my boys but would have pull-up nappies for when my late husband was looking after the kids so I went through one packet of disposable nappies about every 6 months. My Granddaughter-in-Law loved the Eco-Originals I bought for my new Great Grandson.
