Tragic news for Mick Fanning this morning

Pro surfer Mick Fanning has had an incredibly turbulent year and this morning he has woken up to tragic news.

Surfer Magazine has posted a public Facebook update confirming that the 34 year old’s brother, Peter Fanning, had died in his sleep overnight.

The Facebook post said “This year has presented more ups and downs for Mick Fanning than most can fathom. Today, he woke to the news that his older brother had passed away in his sleep. Now, he paddles out into his Round Three heat against Jamie O’Brien with a World Title on the line. We’re rooting for you, Mick. We all are.”

The devastating news comes after a terrible year for the world champion who fought off a shark during a competition at J-Bay in South Africa in July.

The Fanning family have suffered through a tragedy like this before, losing Mick’s little brother Sean in a car accident back in 1998.

We are sending all of our love and thoughts to the Fanning family at this time.
