Australia’s beloved Bluey has finally dropped its third season in the US, with the the first 25 episodes debuting on Disney+ this week. But US fans aren’t getting the full Bluey experience it seems, with several changes made to episodes before they were released on the platform.

US TikToker Michael Vaughn has revealed seven things that have been ‘censored’ in the Bluey episodes released in the US. In fact, he says that Bluey season three is turning out to be the ‘most censored season so far’.

And when you take a closer look, it does seem more than just altering Aussie subtleties that may be lost in translation.

1. “Bandit doesn’t get hit in a sensitive spot in ‘Born Yesterday’.”

Bluey censorship

Nothing like some good ol’ Aussie humour, but apparently this little gem isn’t shown in the US version of ‘Born Yesterday’.

2. “They removed Buttermilk’s poop at Muffin’s birthday party in ‘Pass The Parcel’.”

Bluey censorship

Apparently pony poop is offensive?

3. “Bandit and Fido’s conversation about getting a vasectomy is now about getting dog teeth removed.”

Apparently this scene is in the episode ‘Perfect’ – which we can no longer find on ABC iView – are we missing something here?? You can watch the scenes in the TikTok above.

4. “The day-labourer from Argentina is now a backpacker in ‘Explorers’.”

Bluey censorship

No idea what’s going on here.

5. “In ‘Driving’ Agatha now threatens to scratch up the curtains instead of pee on them.”

Pee must be offensive, too.

6. “Aunt Trix is no longer on the toilet in ‘Faceytalk’.”

Bluey censorship

Oh why?? This is GOLD!

7. “They entirely cut the episode ‘Family Meeting’.”

Our mate Michael Vaughn reckons he’s going to have more to say on this one – watch this space!

BBC Studios told Mouths of Mums in a statement: “It’s common practice for broadcasters to make their own edits to shows when airing overseas, to meet their own standards and practices and so they can be enjoyed and understood by other audiences and cultures.”

  • I guess its ok for other countries to alter things as long as it doesnt change the entire context of a show and as long as they are paying for the episodes. Really what do we care as long as what our kids are seeing is the original and planned show

  • People are getting offended to easly ….

  • How utterly silly!

  • This is ridiculous. You can’t show horse poop, cat’s peeing or person on a toilet (done discreetly) because it’s a children’s show but you can put out games where kids can kill things? I’m speechless

  • I find censorship in different countries quite interesting. I find Australian humour in many shows clever and enjoyable.

  • I don’t like this show at all. And why is there discussion of a vasectomy on a children’s show? Honestly, I won’t be sad if this show got cut here in Australia.

  • Wow…it’s a kids show for goodness sake!
They’re okay with gun violence in the USA, & show distressing violent footage on the nightly news, but choose to sensor a cartoon dog getting kicked in the privates?!?! Go figure.

  • I like the characters such a charming show

  • We love watching Bluey and if I could find another venue to watch it on I would drop Disney in a heartbeat. This company has become to political and now they are censoring this . Seriously I’m very disappointed in Disney.

  • I’ve never watched Bluey so not sure what the changes mean, but I guess the US knows what it’s audience wants.

    Reply

  • Wow! Who knew the US were so sensitive? I’m shocked really.

  • Interesting!

  • Rats to you Disney. What hypocrites your company is. You show LGBTQI+ figures in your cartoons and encourage gender issues but you ban and cut some of Bluey. What the? Get real. Bluey is tame compared to what Disney shows to children. I wouldn’t bother exporting Bluey through Disney, I would find another outlet for this great children’s show. It’s good Aussie humour at its best!

  • This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
I have watched many shows from all over the world, from kids to adult, I can tell you right now those changes are ridiculous.
They really need to get the heads checked, none of those things are offensive and happened day in and day out in kids’ lives.
Every kid has seen mum or Dad on a toilet, the funny part was the fact that the other kids were watching.
people need to get a life.

  • Never watched bluey and not sure I want to after reading all this.

  • So pleased we do not censor and leave it to the viewers to make educated choices. Censorship is always somewhat worrying.

  • I think it’s beyond ridiculous ???? none of these things are the least bit offensive. Someone please explain how Bandit asking “what if someday I just want to bite someone?” better than talking about a vasectomy? I’m sorry, but that is actually worse! Born and raised in the US, but I’d rather my kids see the original Australian version.

  • I suppose different cultures have different perspectives.

  • I haven’t seen bluey but these seem ridiculous things to censor

    Reply

  • Oh Boy! The things that have been censored seem so ridiculous. Here we go again with Political Correctness gone mad! Ok they don’t get our sense of humour, but come on, learn to have a laugh people!
