Andy Hill is living out many little boys’ dream – he owns his own fire truck.  Not only can he drive it and sound the horn, he has also repurposed the truck to bring in an income to support his family.

After being made redundant after 25 years working in the oil industry two years ago, Andy and his wife Terri spent the last of their savings for their unusual purchase – a 1977 Scott fire truck.

“My first question was, ‘are you crazy? What are we going to do with a fire truck?’” his wife, Terri Hill, said in a recent interview with Global News.  “It’s worked out great. The phone hasn’t stopped ringing,” his wife said.

Andy has repurposed the fire truck as a Christmas light decorating machine.  In place of the fire fighting apparatus, he has installed some cabinetry that displays several Christmas lighting options.  The truck’s telescopic ladder is perfect to access tall homes and buildings and attach Christmas lights where required.

This bright venture has been so successful Andy has been working twenty hour days and has had to employ six people on staff to assist him, “If someone’s laid off and they’re trying to support a family…I try to do my best to see what I can do to get them set up for Christmas.”

  • Obviously this isn’t in Aust. or the Police are turning a blind eye. It would have to have amber lights not red. I hope his new venture is successful, he brightens the lives of many and hopefully he will be able to employ more people. Well done Andy, and his wife Terri in supporting him in this venture
