A quick, easy and non toxic recipe for play dough!

Material

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 3 drops your choice of food colouring
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup cold water

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour and salt.
In another bowl, combine water, oil and food colouring.
  2. Pour all the liquids in with the flour and salt (including food colouring) and mix together (with a utensil…unless you want food dye all over your hands…)
  3. Kneed the dough with your hands until smooth. Ensure that when your child (or yourself) have finished playing that you keep it in an air tight bag somewhere cool. I use the pantry in a zip lock bag and it lasts 4-5 weeks.

Notes

This is my favourite recipe for play dough, not to mention it is ridiculously cheap to make and my two and a half year old daughter loves helping me with it. It's a great, quick recipe with hours of fun on the finished side of it! (Go do your washing - quick, they're occupied!)

  • I found that instead of food colouring you can use non toxic paint powder which gives you so many awesome colour options.

  • Yes, much better than store bought ones that add up to be quite expensive after a while.
