Four-month-old Leopold suffers from a rare disorder called oculocutaneous albinism, which has left him with extremely bad eyesight.
Leo’s parents, David and Erin Reppond, sought treatment for the condition from an LA based pediatric ophthalmologist and got special infant glasses fitted before filming the first time Leo put them on.
Sharing the heartwarming video, the couple said they were “overwhelmed with emotion” when they saw Leo smile after seeing his mother clearly for the very first time.
“I had some issues holding the camera because I was crying so much,” Mr Reppond shared.
“I was overwhelmed with emotion. It’s just very touching. You cannot anticipate how you’re going to feel when something like that happens. It was very heartwarming.”
According to Leo’s Dad, the bub is loving his new outlook on life.
“He can see us now. He’s starting to see objects in front of him for the first time. He’s smiling a lot more and he can see everybody in the room, he’s interacting more.”
