Hello!

A custom-designed baby shower dress, featuring live gold fish in a bowl, has been slammed online, with claims of animal cruelty.

The incredibly detailed gown, was created and uploaded to Instagram by Ai L’amour, with the caption reading: ‘Under the Sea Baby Shower. ***NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED*** The fish were very much alive’.

The mermaid-themed gown includes a half fish bowl attached at the tummy, filled with water and real fish. The fashion design label makes unique, custom gowns that it claims will make ‘every milestone memorable’.

The gown’s designer, Yanedaila, took to Instagram to defend her creation.

“Art is just Art. It’s not about who loves it and who doesn’t. One thing I’m passionate about is bringing my clients’ visions to life SEAMLESSLY and I DID THAT! If you knew me fr you’d know how much passion is behind anything I put my heart to and my hands on.

“Thank you to those who can appreciate ART and an ARTIST. And baby this was a one and done, I told my client idc if someone offered me a gazillion dollars.”

But videos of the eye-catching gown attracted thousands of comments from people incensed at the use of live animals for fashion.

“Y’all got to stop using wildlife as a prop,” one person commented. “That fish is going to be dead by the end of the night and that’s bad juju for the baby.”

“What was the point of using live fish? You could’ve easily bought fake fish, and I know for a fact it would’ve been cheaper,” wrote another.

While others went as far as claiming it was animal abuse: “This is absolute abuse, animals are NOT toys or accessories. God this is awful.”

The mother-to-be who wore the gown also shared images and video from her baby shower on Instagram, with lots of supporters congratulating the stunning expecting mum.

  • Just not classy at all.

  • I don’t agree with the fish. Would have been a beautiful look without it….

  • It’s not as if that’s even a “standard” mermaid look.

  • Wow that is just horrible. Who would even think this is cool.

  • I personally wouldn’t give this ‘artist’ tuppence for the outfit – it just looks awful no matter which way you look at it.

  • Ugly in every way

    Reply

  • It’s definitely not to my taste and I can’t see how anyone would like that.

  • What an ugly piece of clothing and to do it at the expense of a living creature makes it even worse.

    Reply

  • Definitely animal cruelty. What, just because they’re goldfish they don’t matter? Seems senseless and silly to me.

    Reply

  • Its a bit exploitative of the fish. They don’t wanna be couped up in there. Silly and uneccessary.

  • Art is art – but abit over the top and not necessary to be honest.

    Reply

  • Just horrible, tacky and cruel.

    Reply

  • Oh dear, it really is awful to use animals, particularly in this way.

    Reply

  • Not necessary. If she’d have not included the fish it could have been okay

  • This seems unnecessarily over the top.
