Benedict Cumberbatch is "over the moon"

Benedict Cumberbatch shattered his legion of female fans when he became engaged to be married in November.

The Sherlock star announced that he and fiancee Sophie Hunter were set to wed by posting a small notice in the Forthcoming Marriages section of The Times, that read:

“MR B.T. CUMBERBATCH AND MISS S.I. HUNTER: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London”

And now the couple have even more exciting news to share, revealing that they are set to welcome their first child later in the year.

“I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child,” a spokesman shared with The Daily Mail. “They are both over the moon.”

The bub will be the first for both Sophie and Benedict, who told the Telegraph in 2010, “I am very broody. I have been broody for the last 5 years because I have 2 godchildren.”

“I know you pick up an amazing amount of stamina the minute you become a dad,” the star continued. “But I would like to be a young dad. I would love to have the ability to juggle a career and have a young child.”

Sophie is said to be a few months along in her pregnancy and according to Page Six, the couple are now planning to marry in early Spring.
