A range of popular highchairs have been recalled in Australia, after they caused injuries overseas.

Product Safety Australia says the bolts used to secure the seat on the TOMY Australia Boon Flair Highchair can become loose and allow the seat to detach from the pedestal base.

“There is a risk of serious injury to young children if the seat detaches and falls from the base,” the recall notice explains.

“This defect has occurred and caused injuries overseas.”

The recall impacts the Boon Flair Highchair sold in the following five colour combinations:

B731: White / Orange
B707: White / Blue
B10147: Grey / Green
B704: Green / White
B708: White / Red

Australian consumers are being urged to stop using the highchair immediately and contact TOMY for a free repair kit. Consumers will receive a set of bolts and split and flat washers to repair the highchair. The highchairs were sold by Coolkidz Australia, between 1 September 2012 and 31st December 2013.

86,000 Highchairs Recalled Overseas

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, about 83,000 of the highchairs were sold in America and almost 3000 in Canada.

The US CPSC recall notice explains that the recall involves Boon Flair highchairs manufactured before September 2016, and all Boon Flair Elite highchairs. It’s reported that 11 injuries have been recorded overseas, with chairs mainly bruising and scratching young children. There have also reportedly been 24 falls and 34 incidences of loose bolts.

  • Don’t like these designs with the circular base. They don’t look safe. Remind me of swivel bar stools. High chairs first and only need to be safe not stylish.

  • How can they allow items that haven’t past our strict quality rules get sold in Australia. So many items for babies have been recalled over the years and it’s shocking they are ever put into shops in the first place
