While having a healthy baby is our top priority it’s common to yearn for a boy or a girl.

Apparently salt is not good for the chances of having a girl.

A few weeks prior to trying to conceive make changes to your diet to reduce the pH levels as acidic conditions that are too high in the body are said to kill the female sperm. Try to increase your calcium and magnesium levels as this is also said to help.

2) No big “O”

As male sperm are typically faster than female sperm and women’s orgasms move sperm closer to the cervix it has been suggested women say no to orgasm.

3) Less frequent

You have sex less frequently to lower your partner’s sperm count and to increase the chances of the female sperm reaching the egg first.

4) Lunar calendar

Check the Chinese lunar calendar – sure you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right, but it’s always worth a try!

5) Plan your timing

As female sperm are thought to be stronger and last longer than male sperm, it’s been suggested to “do the deed” 2 or more days prior to ovulation. To help you work out your dates use this handy ovulation tool.

6) A bit of fun

  • You put a wooden spoon under your bed and a pink ribbon under your pillow.
  • You suggested the love-making.
  • You make love in the afternoon.
  • You make love on even days of the month.
  • Your partner reaches orgasm before you.
  • You keep penetration shallow.

7) In vitro

Although controversial and very expensive in vitro fertilisation is said to be the way to conceive your choice of boy or girl.

Tips for having a boy:

1) Adjust your diet

As too much acid in your body is said to kill off the boy sperm it’s been suggested to try an alkaline diet a few weeks prior to conception. Increase your sodium and potassium intake is also suggested as well as starting the day with a green power smoothie.

2) Give the male Y sperm a head start

To give the male Y sperm a head start it’s suggested that sexual positions that provide deeper penetration such as doggy style will help.

3) Timing

As male sperm are thought to swim faster and reach the egg first it’s suggested to have sex on the day of ovulation.

4) Caffeine hit for dad

To make the Y Sperm more active have the Dad to be drink a beverage with caffeine in it prior to doing the deed.

5) Avoid sex

To keep the sperm count high and increase your chances of having a boy avoid sex for a week before ovulation and then on ovulation day only have sex once.

6) The big “O” first

Reach orgasm before your partner, as this releases an alkaline fluid, thought to be more male-sperm friendly than the vagina’s natural acidity.

7) Exercise?

No more cardio ladies as weight loss is said to sway toward girls so hit the weights and focus on strength.

8) A bit of fun

  • Your partner suggests the love making.
  • You make love at night.
  • You make love on odd days of the month.
  • Your partner keeps his genitals cool by wearing boxer shorts and loose-fitting trousers.

Have any of these worked for you? We would love to hear your tips so please SHARE with us below.

  • Out of all of these I think using IVF is the only way to guarantee the sex. I prefer the practice of trying for a baby. At least it’s more fun that way. Also as long as my baby was healthy that was cause to celebrate. I had 2 boys myself and now I’m also blessed with a beautiful daughter-in-law, a very handsome and caring grandson and 3 of the most beautiful and caring granddaughters I could ever hope to have.

  • Honestly, I think it’s luck of the draw. Probably not healthy focusing on these things. I had a friend who wanted to find out the sex of her baby because she really wanted a girl. She had a boy and was depressed the whole pregnancy. Things would have been worse if she focused and became obsessed with “trying” for a girl.

  • I don’t think I believe in this stuff and find it rather unhealthy to focus on that.

  • The Chinese lunar calender was wrong for me 2 out of 3 times. I have a friend who swears by changing your diet to conceive a girl.

  • A friend claims she chose the gender of her three children – I should ask her how she thinks she achieved this

  • Personally I like the old fashioned mystery of childbirth – not even knowing the gender until the birth.

  • I think number 5 is the only one that may actually help, of course not everyone’s body can be regulated like that!

  • I love it’s something I can’t control. What will be, will be.

  • I never cared what I had as long as my babies were healthy. Saying that, my fourth child’s pregnancy was so different from the previous ones (who were all girls) I just knew it was a boy.

  • I take this article with a pinch of salt. There are things we don’t have in our hand and this is one of them.
Beside that I don’t think it’s good to dwell on your preference of sex for your baby. It only increases the struggle when your baby turns out to be of the opposite sex you desired.
In many countries a boy is more valued then a girl and we all know where this has led to.

  • Yep it worked all 4 times…. not counting the chinese calendar thingy…..
First child conceive by a one time only event. A girl.
2 child did it all the time trying to conceive (every freaking day till due date) a boy.
Baby 3 followed method for a girl except i over shot the dates by a day and bam we had a biy.
Baby r we followed to the letter for a girl and we got a girl….. we used condoms for sex after the cut off date for conception favouring a girl so not to have a rerun of baby number 3 ????
Baby 4 was my hubbys last chance to vet a girl as he has 2 boys…. baby 1 n 2 are not his biological kids.. …

  • I never thought about this. I was just willing to get pregnant. It didn’t matter at all if it was a boy or a girl.

  • We were happy with any gender, so long as the baby is healthy.

  • If all children are equal why would you want one gender more than other?
