Social media is FULL of ‘intelligence tests’ that divide the internet – this one claims that only 1 in 1000 people can solve it, are YOU the 1 in 1000?

Some are saying the answer is without a doubt 40, though others are going about it another way and coming up with an answer of 96. Apparently only 1 1000 people can come up with BOTH answers.

Go on, give it a try!

  • There are two ways to work this quiz out & for the first three it doesn’t matter which way you do it you get the same answer for example
    1+4=5 which is very basic
from now on you can do either of these
2+5=12 this can be sovled by adding the previous total
    2+5+5=12 or
    2×5+2=12
    3+6=21
    3+6+12=21 or
    3×6+3=21 for the last one
    8+11=
    8+11+21=40 or
8×11×8=96, this is why people are getting different answers

  • I get 96 but math was never my strong point

  • I think the answer is 96, but it could also be 40. Depends entirely on the way you read the problem.

  • The answer is an easy one and a good one for trivia nights. The key is to not overcomplicate it and just look logically at the equation.

  • 30.
That is no the normal way to do arithmetic though. I wonder what year they start teaching children that method.

  • It doesn’t look very complicated. The answer is 40

  • Based on the pattern I would say the answer is 40.
