Christina Aguilera opens up about family life.

Speaking to Women’s Health about fiancé Matthew Rutler and her two kids – son Max, 8, and daughter Summer, 17 months – whom she calls, “The joy of my life.”

Christina says –  “Mothers are constantly expected to be the nurturers, the givers, the providers of a comfortable home. We’re expected to be pregnant, have the kids, breastfeed once we have the babies. And we’re expected to look amazing after baby, right? Keep our husbands and boyfriends interested—because we’re supposed to get back to sexy and keep things exciting in the bedroom. There’s such a long list.”

“Having children is the ultimate joy, and I love my kids, but women have to find time to nurture themselves. If someone has a baby, the first thing I’m like is, ‘OK, are you taking care of you?’”

“I would say to any woman: ‘Don’t be too hard on yourself!’ If you’re not feeling confident on a certain day, you have to let that go, and own, ‘Yeah, I’m not feeling confident today,’ and you move on and try to enjoy the best you can. I’m not into deprivation; I’m not into suffering into getting a great body or the body that you want. I’m into enjoying life, being conscious and aware, but also breathing into yourself and owning what you got.”

I love this woman! We could all take a leaf out of her book I think.

Do you take enough time to look after YOU?

  • Her message is a good one; don’t forget to look after yourself and don’t sweat the small stuff. Losing yourself doesn’t help anyone, especially not you.

  • What a positive attitude to have. It is hard with kids to remember yourself lol

  • yes it is a females natural instinct to be the carer

  • It’s very hard when everyone is demanding things.

  • She’s great!!!

  • i grew up with this generation of pop stars and i can still remember her back in the day.

  • I do love Christina! I must say she is looking amazing!

  • Such a gorgeous lady. Yes she is so right

  • Her comments about looking after yourself whilst still be expected to do so much are spot on! I always give new mums not only a present for the baby, but also something for them too.

    • Giving Mum a present is not something I thought about. We forget that Mums don’t have time to think about buying themselves treats. If they have them at the ready, they will enjoy them. I’m sure they would enjoy a nice long hot bath while baby is asleep to help relax those weary muscles if nothing else. Don’t fall asleep though because you may wake up feeling very cold.

  • They are surely important points! Let’s be kind to ourselves. :-)

  • I think it’s hard these days to balance out life with kids. We’re just so busy and I agree that mums (but not always just mums) put themselves last sometimes. It’s important to put aside some time for yourself!
