Shoppers have been whipped into a frenzy with news that the latest supermarket collectable is just around the corner, and this time Coles is collaborating with Pokémon!

Images have started circulating on social media, revealing a Pokémon Collector’s Guide, with 35 different characters to collect. From Wednesday, February 7, shoppers will get a free Pokémon Coles Builders character with every $30 spend in one transaction, both in store and online.

The Pokémon characters are made from cardboard sourced from responsibly-managed forests, and can be recycled.

The images of the new collectables were reportedly leaked on Facebook, with shoppers already gearing themselves up for the new craze, and Facebook groups dedicated to swapping the collectables already cropping up.

It follows several collectables series from Woolworths and Coles over the past few years, including Disney, Bricks and Ooshies.

  • What a waste they should really concentrate on better rewards we all spend way too much money on grocery’s now so give us some love and much better rewards then this silly thing

  • I never shop at Coles and I don’t go into getting collectibles. The only time I do collect them (only from Woolworths) it’s because I know someone who has children and I give to them since they can’t travel out of town

  • If these are like the Harry potter things…no thanks

  • I don’t understand the fascination with collectibles. Just me I suppose.

  • Another Coles promotion that allows only Coles as a organistion to reap rhe benefits. Always a shortage with these promotions.

  • Just more things that end up in landfill. It might sound good to some of the greenies, but it is highly impractical and ends up in heart break.

  • The collectables seem to have a short popularity lifespan. Unless you or your child is a collector/fan of the theme, it really is just another marketing ploy

  • My 10yo was excited when I told him Coles are doing another collectables and this time it was Pokemon… But when I told him it was the cardboard builds like Harry Potter & the DC comic ones, his faced dropped. Excitement gone. Response “Oh why the cardboard? They are useless collectables. They are fiddly, they break easily and you can’t take them in and out of the case without them breaking”. And he is right. My 10yo cannot play with his other collectables. My 5yo had broken his own set trying to play.
I get the idea of cardboard is meant to be “environmentally” better but the kids can’t do much with em. I know many are against “plastic” but Plastic Pokemon Characters would have been more appropriate as kids would be happy to play with them without breaking them. Seriously, sometimes plastic doesn’t hurt. It last longer and more durable then flimsy cardboard builds.
Or even better, why don’t coles do a trading cards collectables like Woolies did with the Disney last year. Kids would have been more happy collecting Pokemon Cards then build em.

  • It’s about time these collectables are eco friendly. Those plastic mini grocery ones were the worst. Seems crazy to ban straws and cutlery but pump out junk.

  • I really don’t like these cardboard builder things. It’s just junk to me.

  • I don’t need these but will collect for a little girl I know who will love them.

  • Oh these builder things drive me crazy. The kids love them for about 5 min then throw them around. then they get angry with me if I throw them out.

  • We are not really into Pokémon. But I think my boys will still be happy to get something at Coles.
