WIN 1 of 20 copies of Small Blessings by Emily Brewin, thanks to Allen & Unwin.

Through the unlikeliest of friendships comes a second chance.

‘Brewin reminds us we shouldn’t take anything for granted, and that change is always possible.’ KYD on Hello, Goodbye.Rosie Larson doesn’t trust people – and with good reason. Her violent ex-boyfriend, Joel, is out of jail and she’s determined he won’t find her or their eleven-year-old son.For Isobel Hutchins, the cost of success is beginning to prove too high. Her impressive career and comfortable lifestyle can’t protect her from the news her mother is dying or the need to face her past. When tragedy strikes, Rosie and Isobel are thrown together despite their differences. In this difficult space, they draw strength from each other and form an unlikely friendship that may just see them through.

Small Blessings is a poignant and uplifting tale of secrets, motherhood, innocence and heartache, and ultimately what we’re willing to do for love.

‘a powerful debut that will capture your heart…’ Sam Still Reading on Hello, Goodbye

  • My favourite fictional friendship is Romy and Michelle. They are firm friends who don’t take life too seriously, enjoy a laugh, and have remained great friends from school through the ups and downs of life.

  • Alfred and Bateman in any of the movies. Alfred has the best words of wisdom that we all know come through as a father figure just giving advise… I’ve only realised this after having kids

  • YABBADABBADOOO!!!
Fred Flintstone and his mate Barney Rubble have a friendship that dates back quite a while!

  • Bridget Jones is my soul mate,
With her life I can surely relate,
Her advice got me a date and success….a beautiful family I did create.

  • Lizzie Bennet and Charlotte Lucas in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Their friendship survived, even when Charlotte went on to marry Mr Collins after Lizzie rejected him! Knowing her friend married such a silly man gave Lizzie no pleasure, but she never said anything. It is such a beautiful, gentle friendship.

  • Jesse and Leslie on Bridge to Terrabithia. My favourite book as a child. Such a beautiful friendship. They bounced off each other to create such a wonderful world

  • Harry Potter and Hermione Granger. Teamwork always solves the case, work hard, play hard and you will have loyal friends forever.

  • This fictional friendship of Rosie and Isobel sounds like my favourite because it shares the true characteristics of friendship with love and raw emotions. Sounds like my kind of friendship.

  • Rose and Jack from titanic

  • The Pretty Little Liars group as although the girls have there ups and downs – it shows the true power of friendship

  • She just turned 70 i just turned 40 our birthdays are like a week apart we live to gossip about the neighbours while i trim her nails and keep her face hairless looking good for our nights out at bingo and we love to win :-)

  • Raggedy Ann and Andy

  • i like Anne of Green gables ..a courageous young girl with a lovable and positive attitude

  • Harry, Ron and Hermione. Through thick and thin, mischief and madness they stick by each other.

  • Harry and Ron, watched it grow over the years

  • Jo and Laurie in little women jo’s craziness and lauries patients makes the best friendship!

  • Thelma and Louise. They trusted each other right to the end.

  • I don’t think I can mention exact characters or a book but I’m a big fan of the protective teenage male who takes the misfit female under their wing.

  • Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, they are the perfect mother daughter couple to look up to. They have a strong bond and a friendship that will withstand any hurdle.

  • Harvey and Donna in Suits…..Just when you think it may be going in another direction. BAM back to friends. They have a great onscreen friendship that extends to real life.
