Welcome to this weeks episode where we discuss – Do detox kits really work?

These kits can be quite expensive but are they just a quick fix or do they make a long term difference to your health.

  • Doing your own research or asking a dietitian/naturopath would be better than paying through the nose for a commercially packaged kit. The fundamentals of improving the diet by getting rid of sugar, alcohol and processed foods and replacing with whole foods should be what anyone trying to ‘detox’ really needs to focus on to begin with. Making changes that you can stick with long term will always have the best results.

  • I tried a liver detox kit a few years back, it was hard to stick to, especially the first 3 days with so many food restrictions, but I persevered and have to say felt better for it, had a huge burst of energy, skin clearer, would recommend if you can stick to it.

  • Although I’m not sold on them I have bought a kit for a friend for a pressie before as a friend of a friend had sworn by them…. so that’s what she requested for her birthday. I think she was less than impressed with the results.

  • I think they can help but should not be the only thing you are doing

  • I’ve never tried a detox kit. If I’ve been feeling below par I’ve always focussed on fruit and veg with plenty of water for a while.

  • I haven’t tried detox kits, but I tend to think (because I’m a suspicious type) that kits would just be a way for companies to make money out of women who want an “easy-fix” to their health issues. Wish I could afford to go to a naturopath to have a programme worked out for me, but I can’t. I’ll just have to try and eat more healthily and do the “detox” on my own.

  • I’ve wanted to try a detox but there are so many out there. Does anyone have any personal experience of any?

    • Donna Maree I suggest that you visit a naturopath for a properly designed detox program. There are many products on the market which claim to detox when in fact they don’t really have long term results. A naturopath will look at what is happening for you regarding your health and design something to suit you. A good place to start though is to clean up your diet, get rid of sugar, alcohol and processed foods and replace with whole foods that are close to their natural state. I hope this is useful for you.
