Hello!

My 7 year old quickly looked at me sideways, and asked, “Mum! Are you crying?”

The truth was, I was. I was crying, with a lump in my throat, feeling ALL the feels, while watchings a kids show. I wasn’t expecting it. I’d been cleaning the house as my girls settled into a new TV series, but each time I walked into the room, the show looked more and more interesting. And I eventually found myself, seated, feet up, tears rolling down my face. I was in. I was hooked.

Not only was I feeling all the feels, I looked back at my daughters and they were overjoyed that I’d actually stopped (we’re always on the go, aren’t we?) and had settled in to watch something with them. I’d decided the laundry could wait, because it never actually stops anyway, and that I was going to make stopping and enjoying time watching with the kids a little more.

The next question is though; what to watch? I draw the line at You Tube videos of people doing every day things. I feel my soul die a little when I watch an American family do a tour of their mansion. I just can’t. To save you scrolling and searching, and any disappoint, I’ve gathered five of the best shows to watch with your kids.

Five Shows To Watch With Your Kids That Won’t Make You Fall Asleep From Boredom

Julie & The Phantoms

Get the tissues ready! This Netflix series tells the story of Julie who lost her passion for music when she lost her mum. And although it sounds out of this world, three ghostly guys suddenly appear, lift her spirits and join a band with her. There’ll be tears, heartfelt moments, and also times when you won’t be able to help but get up and dance.

Wish Dragon

Grab the popcorn, and settle in for this beautiful Netflix movie. Meet teenager Din, son of a dumpling make, who is longing to reconnect with his childhood best friend. In his travels he meets a wish-granting dragon who shows him the magic of possibilities. It’s a story with great humour, hope and happy moments.

The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Think your family is weird? Well, you might be about to be out-weirded. A quirky, dysfunctional family’s road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity’s unlikeliest last hope. Will they save the world?

The Baby-Sitters Club

Nostalgia, come at us! This is such a beautifully made series, that has come quite the way since the Baby-Sitters Club books from our childhoods. It touches on so many topics, in the most considerate way. These best friends navigate the challenges of the early teen years, friendship and dysfunctional family life.

Fuller House

Another ride down memory lane, Fuller House is a fun Netflix TV series, continuing on where Full House left us in the 80s. With five series down, most of the original characters are back and making us laugh (and let’s be honest, probably cry too) .
