Hello!

The summer holidays are almost upon us, and the kids will have plenty of time off to fill with activities.

Along with video games, hanging out with their friends, and whatever else your kids like doing, the summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to organise fun activities to do with your kids.

Here are a few ideas for fun activities and outings that the whole family can do together.

Go to the zoo

Going to the zoo is a great way to spend a day with your kids. Everyone gets excited seeing their favourite animals (adults included!), and it provides a good learning opportunity.

Your kids can learn about different kinds of animals as well as the importance of protecting the environment so that those animals don’t go extinct in the wild.

Amusement parks

Whichever city you live in, there is probably some kind of amusement park nearby. Melbourne and Sydney have Luna Park and those in Queensland are spoiled for choice. If you’re not near any of the major attractions, a lot of travelling carnivals still visit smaller towns. Keep an eye out for things in your area!

Amusement Parks have something for everyone. There are games and rides for kids of all ages, food, and quite often there are petting zoos as well. What’s not to love?

Go karting

If you’re up for some competitive fun with your kids, then go karting makes for an amazing day out. It’s a fun and safe way to add a bit of excitement to the summer holidays.

This is an activity that the whole family can enjoy, and you can all find who is the fastest. Not to mention: you have a lot more driving experience than your kids, so you can probably beat them!

Family trip

Going away for a few days can be a really good way to spend some quality time together as a family. Whether you want to go camping somewhere rural or relax in beach side town, there are plenty of beautiful places to visit.

This is also a good way to use some of your own time off work since a lot of businesses are closed around Christmas and the New Year.

Seasonal festivities

This is also the time of year for catching up with all the extended family and celebrating together. Whether your family celebrates Christmas or any other holiday this time of year (or nothing at all), any excuse to be amongst loved ones is a good one!

Whatever you choose to do with your kids these holidays, just make sure you have fun and make the most of your time.

  • Lots of great ideas here, for people who either have only 1 child or who have lots of money

  • There are some really great ideas here. It can be hard coming up with ways to keep the kids amused so a day out is always nice.

  • Lots of great holiday activities here, but they all cost money, particularly if you 3 or 4 or more kids. We enjoy lots of outdoor activities that are for free

  • We love exploring the outdoors- beaches, swimming holes and gorges, parks etc. My kids all love to be outside!

  • They are long holidays so finding things to do like a hobby where they can spend hours and days working on it is aways a good one.

  • There is a lot of good suggestions to keep the children amused. These school holidays are around double the length of the others during the year. It is harder to find affordable entertainment by the end of the holidays.
One of the thinngs we loved most as children was our Mum to pack us a simple picnic lunch, visit her elderly Aunties and us all go for a picnic at a shady park with a childsafe play area and a safe path for us to all go for a walk, find the birds (feathered ones) and pretty flowers.

  • I haven’t thought much about it yet. But a visit to Perth Zoo is surely going to happen. We have a new giraffe that came from Taronga Zoo in Sydney, and I’d really love to meet her.
We haven’t booked any holiday yet, but I hope we’ll do some day trips at least.
And then a lot of cooking together! :-)
