Toys ‘R’ Us  44 Australian stores will close for good in just days.

The massive fire sale continues after Toys ‘R’ Us announced it was shutting down all of its 44 Australian stores.

The sale now includes up to 70 per cent discount off some stock. Yes that’s 70%!

The toy retailer is expected to close all its remaining stores by the weekend of August 4-5.

McGrathNicol Restructuring Partners announced stock would be sold at between 50 to 70 percent off from now on.

Shop fittings are also up for grabs.

“The realisation of stock across the network will enable all employee accrued entitlements, including redundancy payments, to be paid to Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us employees shortly after the termination of their employment,” McGrath Nicol partner Jason Preston said.

Sadly 700 employees will lose their jobs after administrators failed to find a buyer.

Quick! Get in and stock up the gift cupboard for Christmas early.

  • Most people go to the major stores like Big W, Kmart and Target now.

  • Previously I noticed that their prices we quite a bit higher for the same brand toys. Their sale prices were the same as normal prices or in some cases still dearer than the stores of other companies. For that reason I very rarely shopped there.

  • I’d be surprised if there was much left at this stage.

  • Not much left when we went a couple of weeks ago at Majura Park ACT.

  • I went to the Marsden Park NSW store today and the staff said this will probably be the final weekend for many stores. Items are mainly 50% off. Really have to dig through trolleys for what is left.

  • My kids loved to go there !

  • Went and found things to still be expensive or same price when other stores have sales!

  • Our local store has already closed – I found that out when I went to buy some presents for my neighbor’s twins – however as I was then out of time, I popped $5 notes inside their cards and got the biggest hugs ever from them and they reckoned they had the best birthday ever.

  • Can’t really see there prices dropping that much as they have to make profit as well but if so that will be amazing, sad to see people out of work again!

  • Their sale prices are still more expensive than other retailers – so sorry for the folks losing their jobs ….

  • I got a little haul to put away for Christmas but for me it was more the nostalgia from childhood, shopping there one last time.

  • I could never find anything there at a good price. Always expensive. I do feel sorry for all of the employees who will lose there jobs though.

  • Didn’t snag any bargains was a very quiet closing short notice.

  • No Toys ‘R’ Us here. And generally these sales are just in store, not online. That’s a pity.

  • I went there it wasn’t worth it I bought some toys that big w had for a lot cheaper

    Reply

  • I wish they were still selling online as there’s no store near us to get to.

    Reply

  • Unfortunately, the online sale has finished and we don’t have a Toys R Us in our state, so I’ve missed out all round

  • Keep holding off ladies! They should bring the price down way more than that. Won’t be long. Sad to see them go though, they were expensive but some of their toys were really good quality and different to other store varieties.
