Hello!

So I haven’t (yet) come across to the air fryer side. Yes, I’m totally aware of all the benefits but with all my sausage roll and pie makers and my much loved automatic hot water dispenser, I just have zero space left on my counter for another appliance.

BUT….I’m super excited to discover that a simple new Kmart item can transform my oven into an instant air fryer. And, bonus, it only costs $10.

I’m talking about Kmart’s Oven Air Fry Basket, which is basically a non-stick wire rack with legs which, elevates the wire mesh off the oven base or tray to help circulate the heat around the food.

“Air fry delicious potato munchies or corn crispies in this non-stick oven air fry basket that allows heat to circulate around food for thorough cooking,” says the Kmart website.

No Turning, Perfectly Crispy Food

The simple, inexpensive product ensures that food, such as nuggets or chips, heat evenly and fast and you don’t even need to turn your snacks while they cook.

The mesh tray is designed to fit into a regular-sized oven, measuring 34cm (W) x 28cm (D) X 8cm (H). So you get all the benefits of the air fryer without taking up kitchen space, or forking out heaps of cash.

Just Like An Air Fryer….But Cheaper!

Kmart fans have expressed their delight with the air fryer substitute on Facebook groups.

“Like an air fryer … but cheaper,” confirmed one supporter.

“It pretty much turns your oven into an air fryer, cooks things the same way. I love mine.”

“No soggy bottoms from using baking trays and no need to rotate them.”

“It’s so good! We use ours all the time,” said another.

We Use It To Cook So Many Things

“Makes really nice roast veggies,” one fan said. While another said they use it to make perfectly crispy “chips, nuggets, crumbed fish, chicken burgers.”

Another added that she uses her basket to make “potato gems, party pies and sausage rolls and chicken nuggets” and she loves hers so much that she bought two.

“I use mine for everything. I also put it on to a normal tray so it catches the crumbs or liquid.”

5 Star Reviews!

The reviews on the Kmart website for the Oven Air Fry Basket are glowing.

“Everything cooked is crunchy outside. Wedges are ace!” read one.

“Works well with roasting those marinating chicken as well but you must put oven proof tray to catch the dripping of oil,” said another.

Easy To Clean

The oven air fryer basket is also easy to clean.

One fan said that she puts the basket on “an oven tray lined with foil or baking paper to reduce mess.” Or as another suggested you could also use a Teflon BBQ liner “and just wipe after each cook.”

The basket is also dishwasher-safe.

Many Roles

But the best thing, is that this item has many roles. As one reviewer pointed out – it’s an air fryer tray, a cooling rack plus it could also be a “in/out” tray for letters. Genius!

“It’s good when a piece of kitchenware can do two jobs. This cheap, though well-made, basket doubles as a useful baking accessory and as a cooling rack. Plus, if you buy two, as I did, you could even place them on your office desk, with one marked ‘in’ and the other ‘out.'”

There’s only one thing to be aware of…..this item WILL sell out soon so get yours in store or online now!

  • I’ve got the rack after seeing it here. It works fine but definitely not as crisp as I would like from an air fryer. Doesn’t hurt to try for just $10!

  • It looks like I could have saved my money on the air fryer that I purchased, lol. I rarely use it, not a big fan. But this fancy cheap tray looks pretty tempting.

  • I’m another one who hasn’t gone across to air fryers yet, mainly because I don’t have room for another appliance in my kitchen. I’m keen to try this but wouldn’t it make for a lot of washing up? I like that it is dishwasher safe but I find that putting anything from the oven into our ageing dishwasher makes everything super dirty, and I still end up hand washing anyway. I already bake a lot of food on a rack inside a baking pan lined with baking paper in the oven but that makes a lot of mess too. Still, for $10, worth a try.

  • I don’t have an air fryer so I might just be getting this instead. I think it’s worth a try!

  • Great tip! Inspired to be more creative with suitable alternate air fryer accessories which are sold separately and quite expensive. Used small rounded bakeware tins on top of the supplied basket for fried eggs or muffins, and looking out for a cake tin equivalent.
