This mum wants to remind parents that it is NOT your job to entertain the kids all the time.

Mum of three and popular vlogger Meredith Masony who blogs at That’s Inappropriate wants parents to know the kids will be just fine if you say to them “I just need to go and do this job can you please entertain yourself for a while”.

As parents we have so many jobs to do, but it is not our job to entertain. That is their job!

It won’t hurt them! It is actually good for them and very important that they get time to figure things out for themselves.  Tell them “You need to find something to do. Go! be creative.”

Some parents think they need to constantly be finding things for their child to do. You don’t!

Remember you DO NOT have to entertain your kids 24/7. Do NOT feel guilty when you need to send time doing something else. Encourage them to find something to do themselves. You will be glad you did!

  • I remember loving just playing as a child. I think the resources need to be there, and to an extent, children need to be taught how to play, but I don’t see why they shouldn’t be allowed to be bored so that they have opportunities to come up with their own stuff.

  • Broadly I agree, though age does come into it.

  • Most parents would already know this – out of boredom comes creativity, invention and great ideas.

  • Yes I agree with this mum but gee she only needed to say this once ..seriously this video could have been condensed.

  • Absolutely agree. Kids that are used to stay alone, find things to do to keep themselves entertained. And they are not bored.

  • I think we all can easily fall into this trap and feel guilty , the more we try to entertain the more they ask for attention

  • Its really great for kids to be bored and learn how to entertain themselves.
