We all know how hard it is to stick to your New Years resolution, though when you do, you feel all the better for it!

Here are some tips and tricks to help you stay on track throughout the year to achieve your goals!

Set specific goals and ignite passion to achieve them.

Success is about having a goal – setting your mind to something and going for it. Our goal is very clear – to win Gold in the men’s 470 sailing class at the Rio De Janeiro 2016 Olympics – this is the basis for our whole lifestyle. You need to set goals and utilise drive to achieve success. When you have passion, it becomes easier to focus on winning. Setting a goal also makes it easier to plot out the specific steps you need to take to reach that outcome- when you haven’t got anything specific in mind, it’s easy to fall off the wagon as you simply don’t know where to start.

Use your mind as your weapon.

Having a healthy mindset means we can make the right decisions under pressure. Eating healthy and staying physically fit will help to keep the mind clear and focused to meet your goals. Regular mediation, starting at 5 – 10 minutes every day in the morning, can help to achieve a calm and focused mind so that you can be in a clear head space and more likely to achieve your goals. Sufficient rest is also equally important. If you’re having trouble winding down at night, Magnesium can help support relaxation and sleep so you’re able to rest well and wake up motivated to achieve your goals.

Have a strong support system.

Many hands make light work, right?! Just because you have personal goals, doesn’t mean you can’t work as a team. Your team can include (like ours does) your family, friends, partners, kids whomever it is. Be sure to tell your support system about your goals. Talking about your plans and goals makes them ‘real’ and with a good support system behind them you are more likely to stay accountable for achieving your dreams.

Dedicate and plan your time in advance.

Just as you wouldn’t cancel an important business meeting, you also shouldn’t cancel on your own dedicated time to achieve your goals either. Your time to YOUR GOALS is just as important as everyone else’s time. Map out on a calendar exactly what day and times you will work on achieving your goals. E.g. if your goal is to get fit – physically mark when you’re able to train and mark this time as a NON NEGOTIABLE meeting to yourself.

Celebrate the small wins.

There are many obstacles and smaller wins to achieve on our journey to the Olympics. We make sure to celebrate all the smaller wins. By doing so, we’re able to acknowledge all our hard work and to refocus and re-strategize our plan of attack to achieve our big goal. Perhaps it’s by treating yourself to a massage, spending time with family or even a simple brag on social media of your small achievement – whatever it is, it will help to make goal setting and the journey fun!

  • Planning goals is also important… The small steps it will take so you know what you need to do. And planning around barriers.

  • I really think that talking with other people is essential. We have to try to go public with our resolutions, even just in Facebook, with our friends. This way it will be a little bit harder to abandon the resolutions once it gets hard.
