An Australian mother has been left in shock after a cake she ordered arrived looking like a train wreck.

After paying a registered baker $300 to recreate a three-tier cake to celebrate a baby’s birth, the customer was shocked with the dessert she received.

The completed result looked far from the original with uneven tiers, patchy fondant, chipped paint and amateur decorations.

The cake maker is adamant in issuing a refund as she claims it is ‘beautiful’ and only ‘slightly’ different, shared Daily Mail.

The mother shared the disastrous result in a Facebook group and said she’s determined in getting her money back.

cake fail

‘When you pay $300 for a cake and this is what you get…. nailed it,’ she wrote sarcastically.

The disgruntled customer said she decided to go with a particular cake maker, as her regular was unavailable.

‘She is a registered cake maker. She has shown me her which is why we went with her. The lady that usually makes our cakes was unavailable but her cakes are immaculate.’

‘This lady is telling me that the cake is in perfect condition but looks slightly different due to copy right.’

  • Certainly a lot to pay for a cake that isn’t up to standard.

  • The photos certainly look different. I would be impressed,

  • I wouldn’t stop naming and shaming til I got a refund. $300 for something that looks like it was made in next doors kitchen……no way! It’s more then ‘slightly’ different, it’s quite hideous

  • I’d be wanting a refund that looks terrible for the price she paid!!

  • $300 for a cake ! That’s a huge amount. I would expect it to be a lot nicer than that.

  • i’d be happy with it if an amatuer made it but being that she was a professional NO WAY, i hope it tasted better then it looks

  • How disappointing. And beyond annoying that she was expected to pay $300 for that! I had a close call with a special event cake that the cake decorator pulled the pin only 5 days before offering instead to do a 12″ cake for $248!!!! I had 60 people coming! Her response was that if I cut it in 2cm cubes everyone would get a taste and most people are on a diet anyway!!!

  • Ouch! not a great cake for $300.

  • Definitely wouldn’t be happy if I’d paid $300.

  • I sure wouldn’t pay $300 for a cake !

  • The two pictures are not quite the same and $300 is slot of money!

  • I would not be happy with paying $300 for the cake. Unfortunately it does look different to the requested cake.

  • No that’s not good at all.

  • Looks like a cake the contestants in the show ‘Nailed It’ made.

  • Honestly, Some kids would do better than that. The decorations at the very bottom of the cake on the base don’t even look alike. The woman may have used a similar colour ribbon but it doesn’t even look nice. Was there a copyright on the original cake? Did anybody actually bother to check that out

  • if copyright means bad painting then yes this is copyright. I am not a pro cake decorator but even i can do better than that and have done!

  • I’d expect a lot better for $300.

    • I would not pay for a cake until I had inspected and was happy with the look of the cake.

  • I wouldn’t have been happy with that either! It looks as though it’s been done by a cake maker who doesn’t have a lot of experience as the fondant isn’t done very well for starters and there are a lot of little things that look quite amature on it. I would be asking for my money back

    Reply

  • Oh my. Very different from what she expected. I would have been very upset too.

  • Yikes. Definitely a fail. I hope it at least tasted good.
