A fashion designer mum who loves covering her one-year-old son in temporary tattoos says she’s not going to ease up on the toddler’s fake body art, despite the constant criticism from other parents.

Shameka Morris started putting fake tatts on her son Treylin when he was just six-months-old. The adorable toddler has his own Instagram account which has more than 55,000 followers.

And while most of the comments on the photos are supportive, Shameka’s choice to cover her son in temporary tatts tends to cause a huge stir in the comments. But the Florida-based mum says she’s not going to stop.

“I get a lot of backlash because people are not used to seeing a baby with tattoos. They say I’m raising my son as a ‘gangster’ and ‘thug’,” she said.

The heavily-tattooed mum says even her own family were initially against the fake tattoos. “When I first started tattooing Treylin, my family hated it because they don’t like that I have tattoos.”

But Shameka’s sister Dinera says the family is now supportive.

“When Shameka came up with the idea, I wasn’t down with it, I was totally against it. I did not want her to do that with him. But since I’ve seen where it could take her and Treylin, I didn’t have no issue with it because it turned out to be a positive thing.”

Shameka says she’s no stranger to being ridiculed for her appearance, so she expected it would be the same for her son.

“When I was eight months pregnant I did a maternity shoot with my brothers at a tattoo shop. And I got bullied on social media. All the comments were negative, people were saying my baby was going to be born with a whole bunch of tattoos, that he’s going to have skin poison. It was crazy.”

But Shameka says she shakes off the negativity, because she sees how much joy the body art brings her son.

“When he sees himself dressed in the mirror, he be feeling himself, he be dancing. I really think he enjoys it.”

  • That is adorable. Lol! If no one told me they were temporary, I would be thinking “what the…?”. That is why I had to click on the story to read more. Good on the mum for being different and creative.

  • At least they’re temporary tattoo’s 😉

  • Certainly is different! At least they aren’t permanent.

  • The Mum is obviously enjoying the attention, I’m not sure how the little baby will find it, being looked and pointed at all the time.

    • Aren’t all tattoo’s about attention ?

  • Harmless fun. It’s fake! I used to love temporary tattoos and cover myself in them to look like the guys from Good Charlotte.

  • It’s more that she has created an accessory than an independent human.

  • I don’t see anything wrong with it. They are fake!

  • When her sister says I see where it could take them, I think she’s referring to Fame… I personally don’t agree with using your child who has no say in anything to be “insta-famous”
Id also worry about the long term risk that constantly exposing his skin to those dyes. Temporary or not, they’re still unknown synthetic dyes…

  • AwWww too cute!!!
As always, her child her choice.
We put tatts on our son for his first birthday as it was a carnival theme and he was dressed as a strongman.

  • U think it disgusting. A baby/child isn’t your personally canvas. This mum is deranged. Do want you want to your own body but leave your child to own their own body. No matter what age.

  • I think this is quite weird. I don’t understand it really. I know this is her child and his obviously loved and well cared for but I just don’t get it. I would understand if it’s a cultural thing (and in some cultures it’s a minor tattoo). Yes very confusing.

  • It’s her child and she can do what she wants, but I think it looks awful. I don’t find this cute at all even though he is an adorable little guy

  • He is too cute! Not something I would do to my kids but I don’t see any harm in it. As long as it doesn’t irritate his skin and they aren’t real it seems like it’s just for fun.

  • What makes her think that even looks nice.

  • Not my cup of tea. If she thinks it’s right ????????‍♀️ The tattoos are only temporary.

  • They aren’t real, arent hurting anyone and don’t seem to be causing any skin problems. I don’t really approve of kids having their own online accounts so that parents can post pictures and videos of them. But it’s not my child and I have no right to judge, nor will my comments or concerns change her mind about doing it.
