Never in her wildest dreams did Tenille Smith think she’d actually go into labour at Taylor Swift’s first Melbourne concert last Friday night.

Having been through labour before with her 19 month-old son Sawyer, she thought she was just having Braxton Hicks contractions as she prepared to head to the MCG. So she got dressed up, complete with cowboy boots and headed to the mammoth event with her friends.

At almost 40 weeks, the mum was thrilled she’d actually made it to the concert. But halfway through, she realised she was having actual contractions.

“They started getting quite close and I was sort of in denial,” Tenille told Sunrise.Ā “The Folklore Era came on and that was sort of an opportunity to sit down so that’s when I texted my husband saying he’s gonna have to pick me up after the concert and we’re gonna have to head in.”

She tried to hide what was happening, but her friends eventually caught on.

“I kind had a poker face but I think they could see it pretty bad. And I just said I’m gonna have to leave straight away there’s no chance I’m catching public transport and having the baby on there.”

Her husband Josh managed to get to her at 11pm, but she didn’t want to go straight to the hospital.

“She didn’t really fill me in on all the details, but once I got there I realised she was in labour and I didn’t bring anything with me. I wanted to take her to the hospital but she didn’t want to go in her cowboy boots so had to make a quick dash home and then just got there in the nick of time.”

Baby Sloane was born at 1.20am, with the couple arriving at the hospital just in time.

“Looking back, we only just made it. Twenty minutes later, definitely a swift exit.”

Tenille says her daughter has continued to party after her first concert.

“She’s a firecracker, I think she’s still recovering from the concert.”

Baby Sloane will forever have a reminder of her fearless entry into the world, thanks to her middle name.

“The middle name is Tayla. It’s actually is my middle name, so boy or girl, it was always going to be. But now there’s a better story behind it and something for her 21st.”
