A mum was furious when a school said her child’s lunch box was “too unhealthy”.

Meal time assistants found the food unacceptable, but the mother couldn’t see why.

It turned out the problem was with the three mini cookies included in the box, reports The Sun.

Mum Laura Lee said that staff at the school stopped her son from eating the chocolate chip biscuits.

She posted a picture of the offending meal on Facebook in a comment thread where teachers had shared stories about the worst school lunches they had seen.

Teachers had seen everything from kids only turning up with Red Bull and chips to cold McDonald’s leftovers.

But Laura said of her lunch box: “I thought it was pretty balanced — evidently not.”

Others replied to Laura’s lunch box story and were outraged at the assistants’ decision.

Susan McGowan wrote: “Absolute rubbish that he wasn’t allowed to get those small cookies.

“Everything in moderation surely.”

Martin Harry said: “I would kick the f*** off big time!

“Food is taken off a child and made to be hungry rather than the child eating. Since when was that healthy.”

  • My kids school wouldnt allow cookies either. No museli bars either as they have too much sugar.

  • Amazing that those three little biscuits were such a cause of trouble.

  • This lunch should not have been taken off a child I hope they took it further!

  • I’ve heard about this story a few times as its been on the radio. This is utterly ridiculous and an example of when schools need to mind their own business.

  • This happened to me at my Children’s childcare centre and I think it is absolutely ridiculous. As long as most of the lunch is healthy then why can they not have a treat. The childcare centre said my children’s lunch was too unhealthy because I had packed them a muesli bar – for goodness sake! They wanted NO pre-packaged food – all of it had to be fresh. As a busy working Mum I don’t have time to stand in the kitchen cooking everything from scratch and it should be my choice what I feed my children – not the childcare centres! They no longer go there.

  • That is a fantastic and amazing and balanced lunch. I don’t think anyone has the right to police a child’s lunch that has been prepared and provided by a parent.

  • This looks absolutely fine to me

  • I think it looks fine! I will continue putting a small treat in my kids lunch box along with fruit and a healthy sandwich

  • Oh my goodness, seriously, you should be allowed chocolate cookies, they are tiny!

  • I would consider that unacceptable behavior on the part of the staff member. Regardless of the content of the meal, the only acceptable action is to express your concern to the lunch giver regarding the contents. Unless the school is taking responsibility for the well being of the child including medical costs associated with their actions, a parents choices should always be respected.

  • I think this mum has the perfect balanced healthy lunch box – I would be certainly happy to give this to my kids and not be concerned by the cookies.

Sometimes I think individuals get excited that they get to have a little bit of a power play over people and in the end it really only makes them look silly!

  • The teacher certainly didn’t ask what the ingredients are. The biscuits may even be healthier than the bread used for the sandwiches. Most breads have a lot of preservatives in them that aren’t that healthy.

  • Unbelievable ! Besides, what do the teachers know what is in the cookies ?? It could have been a raw chocolate paleo cookie with healthy fats and without any sugar !
I had one time a comment from a childcare center about the sandwiches I provided for my girl. It was a 4seed sandwich with raw chocolate spread, no sugar. They went off at me, thinking it was nutella. They then sent me a list with healthier option, which mentioned crumplets, devlon, chicken nuggets, ham etc, all very processed foods and in my opinion not the healthiest options.

  • This is just ridiculous. I would tell that teacher where she can stick those cookies!

  • Surprised – three little cookies – seriously!

  • Seriously!? They need to look at the lunchbox as a whole. There’s lots of wholesome healthy food in there too, with 3 tiny biscuits as a treat. How ridiculous for it to be labelled inhealthy

    • Absolutely! It is a whole lunch box and it looks pretty good to me.

  • Schools should butt out of what parents send with their child for lunch/snacks & stick to teaching. It is none of their business. There is a major problem with the world of today & that is too many people sticking there noses in where it does not belong. This is a major cause of problems that are now happening every where

  • I think there are more important things to worry about than if a kid has three little cookies, lets fix the education system first before we start nit picking lunch boxes.
